I have a question I have been doing research for this car it is a 1972 Cuda 318 2V with a 3 speed. It is in pretty rough condition with some cancer but I was looking to buy this car that has a clean title one owner with all the parts to it but was wandering since it is a 3 speed it should be very rare. Does anyone know how many 3 speeds 318s were built in 1972 Cudas? Not sure if anyone has the ability to find this out. Also it doesn't run the motor just rebuilt with transmission some of the panels have rust with small holes and rear pan needs to be replaced with sheet metal. What would be a fair price for this car? The vin number is BS23G2B371438...thanks

No offense at all meant here, but a 72 isn't the car to buy if you are looking for an appreciating car. 70's and 71's. They take longer to find, but you are better off in the long run. I sold my 71 for about 4 times what I bought it for....not a rare build or anything, just a 71

This looks to be an exceptional deal for 3k....Motor is rebuilt & tranny....I see on some other sites the 3 speed option is very rare plus the color scheme is rare too....I might even flip it not sure....I just want to do my homework before I jumped all over it ...

For three K, buy the damn thing. It is certainly worth more than that. I had three shells that pulled 15 and up, no vins. Not sure how much cancer is there, but for three K, pull the damn trigger and work out the details later.
You couldn't give me a concours restored 72 cuda. They are GARBAGE. Set your money on fire, it will be cheaper than restoring that POS. NOBODY WANTS ONE.

I pretty much agree with this.
Restoration costs are huge and that shell sounds like a total restoration. Problemis after spending $15,000 on body and paint (doing it yourself) it's still only worth a couple thou. With a $100,000 resto it might be worth $20,000. Not popular. "Smog-dogs' is what we called them.
If you're wanting to put in a big power 440 and spend huge bucks it could be worth nearly half of what it costs you, maybe.
If it's the car YOU love, go ahead and spend more money than it would cost to get a decent Viper. As an investment don't do it, but if it's for you - spend as much as you want to make yourself happy.
I've got a 71 lime green Demon 340 4spd project stting in my garage for sale for $9,000 including a new $12,000 engine. Valued at $42,000Cdn (when finished) 2 years ago. That's an investment!
For 3K buy it, it's probably worth that in parts alone. Doing a resto on a '72 is a lost cause, use the shell to build a pro touring car or something, but that car will never pull any real money. I have two '71 Cuda's for sale at the shop right now, both #'s matching, both we have restored, one 340 the other 383. With the market the way it is right now even the resale on these "real" cars has dropped quite a bit. To make money restoring a car you really have to have the right car, resto's are real expensive, if you want to make money it better say Hemi, L88, or Shelby somewhere or you will probably lose.

Oh yah, almost forgot. Nearly all 318's were 3 speeds. Only a few were 4 speeds.
If you meant to say 3 speed standard, then yah, that'd be rare. Again, since it's a cheapo and extremely unpopular it has no value gain.
Kind of like a really rare Chevette. I'm sure there's a few, but who cares? No value because no one wants them.

It's a standard 3 speed sorry didn't make that clear...I see most came in at an automatic but this one wasn't. I have just been thinking of flipping it considering this guy is just putting it local in the newspaper. Thanks guys for you info it has been helpful...
Johnny, with my spare 71 Cuda, I sold each front fender with grills for 2200 a fender. Your 72 has all the parts that guys doing 70's and 71s need. I would buy it for parts alone. You would be amazed what a good Mopar part is worth. Turn signal buckets in the front and rear....I got 600 for those since I shaved mine. Every single little part is worth something, so even though the 72,72, and 74's are not restoration worthy, they still have a ton of pieces that the 70s and 71s require. JUMP ON THAT CAR
