That will suck, nothing against them, but they don't have the wit/charm that Clarkson, Hammond etc have. Their hilarious with some of the stuff they say and do. I don't know why they don't just show the show how its filmed over there, I mean is it that hard to do? The Top Gear we got in the state majorily sucked, we got the butchered and chopped up shit version.
Leno could probably really pull it off. Jerry... no dice.
I'd have a very hard time watching it without clarkson, hampster, and james may. They are why I love TG and why TG rules. Without them its just 5h gear or motortrend or whatever. We know stuff about cars, what we want is to be entertained and the three muskateers got entertainment in spades.
I think it could work
Leno is pretty funny at improvisation and Seinfeld is goofy and would be an easy target for jokes
as far as the British Top Gear, it would be impossible to find guys here in the US to take their place
British humor is something you can't replicate
but the problem is, most Americans do not get it, and that is why it doesn't appeal to the general audience
I'll still watch the British Top Gear but I wouldn't mind seeing the American version
we need something to get people interested in cars and driving in this country
Americans have pulled away from the fun of driving because the environmentalists have convinced us that cars and driving is bad
I remember reading some time ago the Top Gear team got offered the big $ to go to the US and do a full series, but apprantly they turned it down as i meant being out of the UK and away from their families for around 6 months of the year
The American version was tried and it sucked. I see no point in trying to adapt the TG format for a more US friendly version, it just won't work.
I like Leno but he doesn't stack up to Clarkson in terms of how he presents stuff. Jay can be funny but he's nowhere near as witty as JC.
We got the shit version here, why they couldn't show it as it was in Europe, have no idea. Clarkson/Hammond/May have a funny chemistry together, I can't see anyone in the U.S. pulling off what they can/do. I mean look at the vid above of Clarkson with the small car, LOL.

We don't need a special US top gear. Why can't the suits figure that out? We don't need bits cut out of the UK top gear, just bring over the whole damn show as it is.

Its as simple and straightforward as doing this. I think they are worried that some of the commentary would piss off advertising in the US by the big 3 unfortunately.
I've managed to get all the episodes on DVD, and I can watch them on BBC Canada every sunday (reruns)
