I don't think anybody said that the ZR1 is not going to be a fast production car. The problem with the car, is the same problem with the Z06; appearance. It looks like a Z06, which looks like a base vette, which doesn't look so great and is common as hell. When a 40 year old version of the vehicle looks a shitload better than the modern version, something is wrong. Quality is also an issue with the corvettes and has been, since 1968. It's not getting any better. So, while the ZR1 looks impressive to some, it isn't impressing me at all, simply because it is another indication that Chevrolet just doesn't get it and is making the same mistakes that it has been making over these past years.
If they built a retro '69 ZL1 vette, complete with a modern big block aluminum motor (502 ci) and 650hp, I would be impressed and most definitely salivating. The modern vette looks fairly nice from some angles and downright clumsy and even gay from others. Most enthusiasts would much rather have a fire breathing big block than a supercharged small block. At this point, the car has deviated so far from what it was, there is no getting it back to where it should be. Fortunately, Dodge builds a modern L88 vette but with much higher build quality and god bless them for doing so.
So what you're really saying is that the only thing that you see wrong with it is something subjective. Opinions are fine but as I said earlier that's really all you have. I'm not quite sure where you come from but where I'm from the high revving small blocks blow the doors off of the portly, nose heavy,"Fire Breathing" big blocks.
What do you have to prove any of these "Quality issues"? When they moved to Bowling Green the quality got significantly better. I'm quite interested to see your proof. I've seen more broken 911's than I've seen vettes. Please enlighten me on these myths.
How do you figure I cannot afford one, when I have 2 Vipers and even a vette, which is worth well more than a new Z06? Rather than buy the '06 Viper, I could have bought a Z06 and had a mexi like yourself go over every nut and bolt, that machines fastened, and still had money left over.
By the way, I suggest you learn to worship your superior and avoid engaging with me. You wouldn't be the first corvulva gaybird that I humiliated on this forum. You bought the economy car, while I flexed my purchasing muscle and came home with the real deal, not once but twice. In fact, I walked away from a brand new atomic orange Z06 to purchase the GTS, this past July. You'll have to come to terms with my dominance over you or it will eat you alive. Now, be gone, peasant.

OK, so I heard you have an 80's Vette which we all know you can buy for under $5,000, a GTS which has a Blue Book/Auction value of around $35k and an 06 which once again has a value of around $40 to $50k, so all in all you have maybe $80k worth of cars there hot shot, about what I paid for my 08 Z06.
I was driving thru the highways of west virginia 14 days ago and in the sleet and snow i noticed 6 zo6s on a open transporter.. shame they don't transport those things in enclosed trailers..
Gotta love comments from people with no experience in owning both vehicles. I've had my C6 and now the Viper, but I'll say other than the paint, brakes, and seats on the Viper, the Corvette is a nicer and better built car. All C5s and C6s are hand built, not just the Z06. They roll on an assembly line together (been there three times) and are assembled by workers at each station. The Z06 doesn't get special treatment, it is assembled just like the rest of them. Being in Bowling Green, KY, the majority of the workers aren't illegal immigrants either. They have a lot of pride in that plant, and local people wait for years to get the union jobs in the Corvette plant.
Back to the ZR-1. Don't get silly with comparing peak HP numbers, because that supercharged 6.2L has tons more area under the torque and HP curves. It will humiliate an '08 Viper from a dig or a roll, count on it. Peak HP bench racing is dumb, compare the curves below and figure it out for yourselves.
But, I also agree that I'm a little disappointed with the visuals on the ZR-1. As soon as the base/Z06 owners get their hands on the GM parts numbers for those splitters, hood, wheels etc... you will see 1000s of carbon-copies of this car rolling around. It offers pretty much zero exclusivity or WOW factor. They really should have changed a few things to set this car apart from the Z06, perhaps with stuff that wasn't easily (or cheaply) copied for the lower models.
-Should have had some pricey forged billet wheels on it. That makes people cough up big bucks to copy them, instead of cast wheels which will be copied in China for $700/set.
-Should have changed the tail panel, integrated the spoiler into it and maybe changed the shape of the tail lights to a more rectangular shape (like the C4 ZR-1) to set it apart.
-Change the shape of the headlights and nose cover, to make swapping more expensive and a hassle to do for the base model cars.
When you compare the huge power differences between the blue (LS7) and Green ('08 Viper) horse and torque curves, and then consider that the '08 Viper "barely" beats the LS7 on a track where it counts, it's obvious to to see how bad the ZR-1 will embarrass the new Viper.
I REALLY like the '08 Viper, and amazing power numbers are to be had with very little modifications. But the reality is that these two cars compared stock versus stock, or modified at equivalent power will not perform the same. The ZR-1 clearly has the advantage.

I agree with you there. I think the carbon green house will be hard to replicate as well as the hood. A C6R style extrctor hood may have looked cool on it.
Not that I don't enjoy the hell out of rowing through the gears but a Ferrari style twin clutch F1 trans would have been a nice touch. My friends 360 F1 just shifts awesome. They got the performance right but I'll bet that fucker's a handful to keep goin' in the right direction.

If we put an electric blanket on your head for one hour and gave you an IQ test at peak temperature, would you near the 3 digit mark? The '82 vette I have is pristine, loaded, has very low mileage and is easily worth 15k or more. The '68 vette is worth a shitload more than your Z06 (well over 100k) and would kick the holy piss out of it in a race. Furthermore, it looks so much better than your gaybird Z06 that you wouldn't even want to park your homo magnet anywhere near it. My '68 might also mistake it for a female and begin a grotesque fertilization process that would prove to be more than your soiled ego could bear. Show me where you can buy an '06 Viper coupe with stripes and under 300 miles for 40 or 50k, dickbag. Besides, my '06 Viper is destined for turbocharging.
Now, what can you do to better prepare yourself for being my servant, bigscrub?
Bigscrub, anybody can take a pic of a car and make it look shiny. I have seen black Z06's up close. I was thinking of buying a Z06 to flank my '06 Viper. They had an atomic orange one and a black one at the dealer. I ruled out the black one because of the god awful orange peel. It was the worst paint job I had seen on a modern car. The orange peel was not as noticeable on the orange one but the interior and overall appearance didn't do it for me. In the next week, I found a 2000 GTS Viper that had me sold at first sight. As soon as I pulled in the parking lot, where it was, I said to my wife, "Holy shit, I'm buying it". That is the visual difference between a corvette and a Viper.
The funny thing is, when I only had corvettes, I was always willing to concede that the Viper was higher up the food chain. I enjoyed the vettes but knew that the Viper was in another class. Why do current vette owners have such trouble doing the same? Bigscrub, you have an economy car. Come to terms with it, enjoy the every day driveability, boast to your neighbors but don't delude yourself into thinking it is in the class of a Viper. Now, how much would you charge to cut my lawn? Does this include trimming and edging?
OK dumbass
#1 the pic of the Z06 isn't photochopped to look shiny, it is.
#2 I've had a couple of Vipers, no big deal. All years prior to the 08 can be had for in the $50k range or below. Check the Manhiem report on them, if you even know what that is. I had a hard time giving mine away to the dealer for an 05 with 3,000 miles at $53k. Another guy traded his in and got $50k. An 06 would bring in a few grand more, as another guy just called me with an 06 black coupe thinking he was going to get $60k, but now he is calling me to take it at $56k. Joelcool was going to buy this guys car.
#3 I don't care if your 80's Vette had 0 miles on it, you couldn't pawn that piece of shit for $1,000 bucks, proven fact. There are a few here and there on the Vette websites that are selling for a few grand but no takers.
#4 Your 68 Vette if in mint showroom condition with very low miles are all over the Barrett Jackson for under $80k. Maybe you have a one off that nobody has ever seen yet for over $100k. Do you have a 68 split window Hey maybe I could do a split window on my new Z06 and enter it into the auction for 1 million.
#5 and lastly, and I'm sure everyone else in here feels the same, could care less what cars you have. I spend more in bills per month to buy one of your pieces of shit monthly, and I'm sure there a quite a few other guys in here that can say the same. Fuck I lost more money on my last Viper that could have bought that 80's faggot Vette of yours and your hand me down GTS combined.
I will tell you what I'm going to do to help you out. Why don't you caravan all of your pieces of shit down to Scottsdale in 1 month and I'll help you push all of them into the BJ auction, and we'll see if we can get rid of all of your shit in one big swoop for $150k. Now we'll probably have to use that 80's Vette as a door prize to get in, or you could do a smash for cash on it which I guarantee will bring in more money than what it's worth. Afterwards I'll let you help me sweep the floors with a broom stuck up your ass courtesy of the Big Mike
