Current 505 horse Z06 will run with the 08 600 horse Viper. This car will flat out embarass the Viper. You guys are so blind its not even funny.
Dont be so sure.
It weighs 200lbs more than a Z06. It's 15lbs lighter than the ACR and has 20hp (rated) more. It could be a close race, or it could not be. We shall see.
Looks like it weighs in at 3350 pounds. The weight advantage over the ACR is 16 pounds according to the numbers I am seeing. Given that the Viper engines are making around 620 crank, it should be a REALLY close race...a far cry from the raping that was being predicted. I also realize the Vette may be making more than 620 HP, so we will see. Certainly a pulley swap will make things interesting (In a bad way).
Here's what comes to mind...
1) Weight is hugely disappointing. +200lbs over a Z06? Blech.
2) SC is good, although will it heat-soak? We shall see.
3) Can the boost just be cranked up or is this SC running at the limits of efficiency? Some motors have massive potential (Supra TT, Viper forged V10), some don't (RX7, 300ZX). If this is one of the good mod-able motors, then simply pulley swaps may get big gains. If it's not, it may be a huge bitch to make faster. We shall see.
4) ACR has lower unsprung mass and makes downforce and NA power. I bet the ACR will give this thing an asspounding on any sort of track
5) The clear panel in the hood sounded cool but it looks like dogshit in the pictures. It will be the first thing to haze up and turn into a turd.
6) Overall the car is pretty badass - brakes are cool, I like the styling overall. Interior sucks but still better than the Viper.
7) Price is probably going to be a mistake for Chevy... its - what - $30k over a C6Z? That's ZR-1 premiums all over again. I dont know if this car will sell long-term. I tend to doubt it.

The price is a GOOD thing. For the serious collector or performance guru, thats the only thing that is a barrier from the rest of the Vette community, and will make the car worth it and hold its value over the years. There are still 90-95 ZR1s for sale with plastic on the seats.
No doubt its an awesome car, and I have no doubt the engines can take quite a bit... I just still hate the "viper vs vette" comparison.
Actually I own 2 assclown , a 2002 Z06 and 99 Viper ACR, also have a turbo busa, if that is you on that little pussy trick bike I wouldnt be talking shit, just another fagot from california , little turd, I love the way you wear your hat , also hit the weight room you little pussy, before you start the name calling.
Ooooh you got a 02 Z06 big fucking deal!!!
And you call the new version a Turd Is someone a little jealous they can't afford the new model? My little pussy trick bike bought me a nice brand new 2007 Z06, you know the one you've been drooling over for the past 2 years. Now go back to the weight room and try and pump your little ego back up again.

LoL... I hope there was some neg rep that went along with that...
With the Vette having a s/c, if the HP doesn't put it in front, the s/c's instant power delivery should give it a jump that'd be hard to overcome. Offsetting a 200lb weight gain easily.

Man, you hit the nail on the head and echoed my thoughts exactly.

anyone that spends $12,000 for exhaust is just a dumb fuck. you might as well just wait and put a blower on it and make 150-200 h.p. extra for the same price.
Add a pulley to the vette (I could make one in my basement for about 20 to 30 bucks) and it most likely gets ugly. The ZR1 has the potential to have 800 HP with a pulley swap. However, add a pulley swap and its gonna heat soak faster on a track, so there are compromises.
No matter what this car is capable of, its still a Corvette. Just like no matter how fast your 03 Slowbra is, its still just another fucking mustang in the parking lot. Every old man in his C6/C7 vert and aussie hat with the rattlesnake band is gonna pull up next to you and give you "the wave" and headnod because he thinks youre both in the same club.
Its just like having an LS1; Every punk HS kid in his V6 firebird is automatically as cool as you in his own mind. The Viper would have never been as elusive and respected had it gone anywhere near the same route. Its in its own class all by itself, and thank God Chrysler set it up that way.
And our Vipers are merely just a "Viper" parked next to Ferraris, Lambos, etc so what it your point?? Get over yourself, it's a bad ass car that deserves respect no matter what you drive.
Would love to own both, competition is a GREAT thing and congrats to GM.
