Run in w/ a new gen Viper this weekend (07 //M5 here)
Was just curious if he's on this board. I'm not familiar w/ Vipers, so I can't say much other than it was Red and the newest generation car.
This was on Westpark Tollway in Houston on Sunday.
We had one quick run where we ran about dead even. I jumped a little early and we accelerated evenly from 50ish to 140ish. Then, before I could give a thumbs up, he jumped off at the Mason Road exit.
Just curious if you're a board member here. Nice car!
And, now of course, I'm wanting to read and learn more about Vipers... a car I've obviously noticed, but never really considered before.
I don't know. That was one of the pics posted on the VCA forum on the 8th. I do know that that was one of the first cars to step off from Connor Ave and that the dealer got their shipment late because the delivery truck was having mechanical difficulties.
I own an '08 M5 SMG and have an ACR on order. From what I've read about the Gen IV's, I highly doubt that it would be even to 140 (I feel that the Gen IV would pull the M5). From 140+, I think that the 5 would pull away.
Sorry, it was a Gen III... not the very newest Gen.
I'm not very familiar with Vipers, so I wasn't aware that the '08s were a new generation.
That picture above of the wine red... OMG
Anyway, it appears the guy isn't reading this board or forum. Oh well. I was hoping to find out who it was. Very nice car, and a cool guy from what I can tell.
To answer the question regarding my car, it's an SMG.

I highly doubt the M5 would pull the Gen IV anywhere. They are around 635 HP stock and have less frontal area (but higher cd). The Gen 3 got pulled over 150, but I doubt the Gen IV will. BTW...not hating on M5s because they are pretty badass, I am just saying the new Viper is a crazy MOFO and I don't think the M5 has what it takes to run with it.

I just traded my 05 SRT in on an 07 M6 smg, because I have to have 4 seats in a daily driver right now. I can't stand this for too terribly long, but for right now I don't have an option.
If you were even in acceleration (at those speeds; top end might be different), even with a Gen III, he was either playing with you or a terrible driver. The M6 is fun to drive but it's no Viper in performance.
Former PFR - After seeing the Hennessy numbers, I don't feel so strongly Prior to that, I was basing my beliefs from my seat time in the 5, my recollection of my previous Viper, and a few well defined video's of the M5 -vs- XX. I'm not sure how the Gen III compares to the Gallardo but here is a stock M5 -vs stock Gallardo 50-250kmh run.
I'm not retracting my previous statement but I will say that my feelings have changed due to [insert Lebowski voice] "Some new things have come to light.... Maaaan! [/voice]
flexcaliber - Remove the charcoal filters; if you haven't already, it makes a noticable difference.
Try these settings on the M-Drive, and shift at redline. For straight line, the following settings have been noted by many, to provide the quickest acceleration:
500P
DSC-off
S-6 (if you do not turn the dsc off 1st, it will default back to S-5)
As great as the M5 was, it really was boring when compared to the Viper.
