A stock M5 isn't going to have a chance against a Gen III. I don't care what videos that clown Gustav from the M5 boards posts about "stock" M5's beating Lambos, Z06's, AMG's, etc..
I've played with a few M5's in my E55, and from a low speed roll, I was pulling them both to over 100mph in a bone stock '06 E55.

Try these settings on the M-Drive, and shift at redline. For straight line, the following settings have been noted by many, to provide the quickest acceleration:
500P
DSC-off
S-6 (if you do not turn the dsc off 1st, it will default back to S-5)

As great as the M5 was, it really was boring when compared to the Viper.
Thanks for that info. I hadn't heard of those settings yet.

I'm going to wait until after the 1200 mile break-in (which I actually blew to hell on the ride home from the dealer) and take the charcoals out, RPI ram air w/BPM filters, EVO pulley and some sort of cat back that I haven't decided on yet.

Then I'm going to drive the piss out of it until I trade it in on an ACR in late 08 or early 09.

Yeah, you want to hold off on those settings until after the 1,200 service. I took delivery of mine on a Friday at 4:30pm. While I was taking delivery, I scheduled my 1,200 service for the following Monday at 10am

The car is MUCH different with the above settings. You will be very pleased when you feel the shifts @ WOT, with the mentioned settings. The "launch control function" is okay but would be much better if it was the same as the Euro spec.

If you haven't already, check out the Tubi-Rumore exhaust.

Your E55 is crazy fast tho from what I've read they are a tad quicker than M5s in the straight line. I'm skeptical of a newer M5 beating a Gen III or IV viper also but remember the M5 will do 204mph w/out a limiter and they do have ultra fat paddle shifting with 7 gears and a better coefficient of drag.

I wouldn't rule out anything with the BMW M cars OR the Mercedes AMG cars they are all brutally fast.
