Detroit Auto Show: This is the 2009 Corvette ZR1 LS9 Engine and Yes, We're Probably in Serious Trouble

It looks killer, but I would be more interested in seeing this engine in a '62 Corvette retromod.

Looks like GM threw in the towel by going FI rather than NA. Too bad! That's why I like the NA of the 8.4L there's more in that block to be had!

Looks like the flow path to the runners is a little restrictive, but otherwise its a very nice job on packaging.

Once again, until the engine and car hit the streets and put on some miles, everything said is all speculation. That is all.

Will it survive? How stressed is the engine? Is it typical GM quality?

All unanswered at this point.

Why waste time talking about something that no one knows anything about except the engineers at GM.

funny you say that cause last time i checked, zo6's were head to head or better than an srt-10.

and arent they both na?

isnt the corvette 6.2 L while viper is also 8.4? hmmmm. wonder what a supercharger would do in a zo6....

I guess the ACR party is going to quiet down a bit, now. Ass whipping #2 is on the way. Up until now, the ZR1 was just a rumor but those pics sure look like production goods to me.

I agree; considering the 600 horse 2008 Viper only beats the 505 horse C6Z by 1 tenth and 1 mph in the quarter, you know it's an ass whipping waiting to happen.

But this is only if Dodge doesn't up the horsepower of a future model. Adding factory forced induction to the Viper should easily keep it on top.

Yes, it is the "Blue Devil" engine.

I wonder what the car will do with a pulley swap, headers and a tune. If that gives 700hp with DVD Nav and two cupholders you just may see many of the Viper faithful driving a corvette. We all love the "rawness" of the Viper but at some point, some other car is going to give the same bang for the buck and be a whole lot better.

I have no problem buying that car no matter what it is.

If the car is pushing 650hp stock, and we can learn anything from past factory FI cars with BPU's, then this ZR1 should put down at least 700 to the ground.

I'm curious to see if it breaks 9's stock with slicks, with a certain famous vette driver.

However, it still looks like every other vette out.

This is why I love my GTS. The new vett will never look better. You can always make a car faster but not really look much better than it starts out.

If GM made a major change to the appearance and quality then I would have no problem with the new vett.
