hey, how's it going? i'm new here (obviously). intro time! my name is Nick, i'm in the USAF and i'm an HVAC/R tech. i'm stationed in Japan right now. i'm 21 and am tired of the "little kid" crap. trying to really step up in life. i already completed one goal in my life and bought my 02 MV Agusta F4 earlier this year (should be paid off by the end of next year). i'm into photography and have been playing the guitar for about 9 years. anyways, i'm looking at getting a Viper when i move back to the states (i've wanted one since i was a kid). should be in the beginning of 09. kind of a long time from now, but i'd like to get my questions sorted out early. i read a few threads and hear that some of you recommend buying a 1st gen for a first Viper since it is the "original." i agree and i think that's what i'm going to do. now for some tech questions. since i'm most likely going to be buying my Viper right when i move back to the states, it's going to be my only method of transportation. are they OK daily drivers? i read that the rear tires aren't very fun in the rain. also, how are maintenance costs? i'm a mechanic (for the most part), so are these things easy to work on?
It's a pretty mild right-of-passage, you'll get much worse. "Warm welcomes" and The Alley form an oxymoron.
Look at the bright side, I didn't neg-rep you as a n00b.

why's that? do Viper owners wreak of so much badassness, they become socially superior to all others?

Well, usually we don't feel that way. But to call a regular on this board a "dick" in your second post, really opens the door for a free for all on you. Good luck
Now, if you would read a few more posts, you would see that's a normal welcome around here. Do a search for "NooB", and you'll see what invokes the wrath of the old timers. Nothing personal, don't be so thin skinned.
To answer your original question, I would buy a Gen 2 GTS if you're going to use it as a daily driver. it's much more forgiving than a Gen 1.

well, no offense, but this is the first forum i've been on where i need "right of passage." shit, this is the first place in the net i've needed a "right of passage." i could care less what people think of me, i just wanted to maybe have a couple questions answered. you answered one and i appreciate it. but when the first response to my first post is "who gives a fuck," it doesn't make the forum look too promising. the last thing i need to see is another e-thug trying to act all badass through text. i don't care how long you been around, 1st impressions are pretty important.

Welcome fellow Airman I was stationed at Travis AFB back in the early 90's as a KC-10 crewchief. Good luck with buying a viper when you get back to the states.
Does this mean you're scratching me off your Christmas card list?

no, you're still on there. coal is still pretty cheap.
boplaw: trim screws are 9 bucks? geez, i thought my MV was kinda pricey. it's not going to be a dd forever, i was thinking about a truck for a dd. need something to tow my bike to the track. i'm used to gas and oil costs, i had a Camaro SS with nitrous that i didn't exactly drive gingerly before i moved here. i know it's not on the same scale as a Viper, but i get the idea.
02 GTS: Travis is a pretty nice base. since you were a KC-10 C.C. you have probably been here to Yokota a few times. i was at Beale for 2 years.
Dohhunter: it'll take more than that to get rid of me, i just figured waiting a few posts to start the ruder remarks. no worries, tho. this seems to be a pretty good site, i just stepped on a nail on the way in.
