Any experts on 1996 BMW 740IL?

Looking at a nice 1996 BMW 740IL. I'm sure all you guys have one of those 'somewhat' older cars that you've always liked... Timeless styling on this car, IMHO.

The car is a one owner in excellent condition with 115,000. Has been properly maintained. Everything works. I think I can get the car for $6,000. Yes, small investement, but I'm just wondering about the typical big dollar items than can go wrong with this car. I'm sure I can do all the routine maintenance (brakes, fluid/filter changes, etc...). I am concerned about the bigger things. What should worry about (if anything)?

All those bells and whistles go south on Beemers after 100K miles , I had a 3 series and my buddy had a 5 series that both turned into junk at around 120K miles........

Ditto what viperspray said bro - sorry - I know it's not what you want to hear. But every tidbit that goes they charge out the ass - more so if its a specialty item, tranny, timing set etc....

Love the car - have had plently - would never own one not under warranty...

Honestly I've found Audi to be a much better made car.

A buddy of mine had one, and he was dropping money left and right. There is some modulator in the brake system that went out, cost him a boat load of money. Some pressure hoses busted and needed to be replaced, and eventually the ECU. It was a money pit for him. Nice cars, I love em, just a ton of money to maintain and keep on the road.

That's why the 7 series's value is in the shitter. The e39 5 series cars hold up pretty well. My buddy has one with 100k+ and he has nitrous on it and beats the shit out of it. Its been quite reliable.

They are trash as stated by many. The price you are getting it for, 6k, will double in repairs in no time. Even the brand new 7 series are trash. Wifes boss's 750 was in the shop 6 times since new (purchased in nov 06). Guy drove car to and from work, 15 miles round trip and barely on the weekend). Once the warranty and free maintain. runs out, hes getting rid of it. But they are nice cars when everything is working.
