Unfortunately I am not ready to buy viper right now, but the car I am looking at are 03 Cobra and 02 Z06. Both of the cars are about the same in price. I know the cobra is very mod friendly and it is easy to add hp. The corvette is better performance car since it is more of a sport car to begin with. Some things I took into consideration.
03 cobra pros: easy to mod, looks good, back seats, more of everyday car.
Cons: heavy,mpg, v6 model is offered,mustang after all.
02 zo6 pros: Bigger engine, handles better, mpg, light, corvette name.
Cons: flip up head lights, no rear seats, more of a weekend car, (higher insurance?)
I am kind of leaning toward the Z06. What are your thoughts about the two cars?
Not sure if you came to the viper alley because you thought we would be impartial or what. In my opinion the vette and mustang are about as different as the vette and viper. Mustangs are the bottom rung when it comes to "sports cars". When you buy a mustang cobra you are getting a exotic engine and a run of the mill car. The corvette has better fit and finish, (still not wonderful) better handling, better looks, and are all around better performers. Here are a couple pics of my z to give you a few ideas. It makes 506rwhp and is fun to drive.
I put a 15psi Whipple, FR500 catback and CAI on my '03 and went 11.0@128mph on 17" MT DR's.
They are hard to beat as far as modding, but don't offer the all-around performance of a 'Vette. They are also a 4-seater with a usable trunk.

Z06 by Far. The Cobra is nothing special beside the Blower on it. A good friend of mine has one. Makes like 490rwhp but to me its a MUSTANG. Whoop Dee Doo!
Mustang insurance is very high compared to a vette. F-bodies are the same way. That class of car just screams "irresponsibility" to an insurance company.
I bought a brand new GT500 earlier this year, drove it for about 6 months (1,000) of got rid of the POS. Get the Vette. Mustangs are not true sport cars.
Wow thats pretty surprising that Z06 insurance is a lot lower then cobra, I thought they would be around the same price. You guys brought up some good points. I was leaning toward the Z06 from the start and now im sold on it.
I had an 03 cobra... if you want to go fast, get the cobra (best bang for the buck as far as mods). If you want a luxurious sports car that handles and performs well and you DONT need 4 seats or a trunk, get the vette
the cobra will look like any other mustang and the z06 will look like any other vette.....
with me, it was all about 4 seats, a convertible and a trunk...... at the time
