Say it ain't so. That would make the dealers dishonest.
I tell ya one thing...we never did that. All we ever did was make crappy TVs (regardless of price) look as bad as possible so people didn't get attached before we told them they sucked.
I forgot about Fujitsu...those things are great too!!
... and not cheap, either!
Overall, I prefer plasma. I have a 3 year old Samsung 61" DLP that has never given me one problem. Hell, I'm still on the original bulb and I leave that thing on all the time! It wears like iron and the picture is great. But, I'm all for freeing up floorspace. I like the idea of mounting a big TV on the wall.
I like the contrast ratio that plasma offers as well as the brightness. They do have a glass screen which can be a problem with glare depending upon ambient light and seating position, but I feel they are worth it. The LCD's have a more matte screen which can help diffuse ambient light, but they don't have the contrast ratio or response time of a plasma or DLP. For picture size : $ ratio, DLP is the way to go. But, you can't wall mount them due to depth. The newer LED light engine DLP's are super-nice.
For myself, I'm getting ready to redo my system with a 60" LG plasma on the wall. I can't wait!

If you like watching sports or racing the speed of the plasma is far better.
As hanging it goes one of my TV's (50" panny plasma) is up with 2 bolts in 1 stud and 4 sheet rock ankers.
Phillips is not that great of a TV.
Rear projection (DLP,LCD,CRT....) are nice TV's and give a great PQ when set up right BUT off-angle viewing mostly sucks not the most reliable (bulb replacements, color wheel for DLP). Best bang for the buck size wise.
LCD give a nice PQ and most are a good choice for a bright room. Extreme off angle is a problem, black levels generally not to good, low end gray-scale usually bad to very bad, colors are not to good (over blown, to bright) Most/all have backlight problems (uneven, leaking)
Plasma still the best PQ for a flat panel. Burn-in and IR can still be a problem if not broken-in correctly, most get washed out with light.
Front projection (DLP,LCD,CRT....)generally best PQ. Need total light control for a good PQ, hardest to set up.
As far as brands go LCD stay with the 3 Ss Sony, Sharp, Samsung for plasma Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung for RP Sony, Samsung
For the budget Vizio makes OK LCDs and PDPs
As far as longevity goes a nice set will last as long as you would ever want it. I have a 5 year old ED PDP (by far my oldest TV)still looks as good as the day I got it.
I had 1 DLP I liked it but as the bulb ages so does the PQ, on the plus side putting in a new bulb made it look like a new TV again.
As far as laser, oled, sed and so on they all sound great but so didn't New Coke.
Just so you know I buy TVs like most buy socks. At any time I have 5-6 TVs in the house most don't stay but 6-12 months as I must have the latest and greatest.

3 years on the same bulb? Man put a new one in there you will be amazed at the difference in PQ.
Good luck with the new LG not a bad set (I have a smaller one at the moment) any reason you picked LG?
I agree with everything Tower says. My guess on the LG is that they often times have some pretty awesome promos with CC and Best Buy. Half the time we had free install (wall mounting) on LGs. We only did that once on other TVs.
