Are tire pressure monitoring systems shit or do I just have bad luck? I bought my wife a Cayman S a while back and within a couple months it is in alarm all the time - pressure on tires is perfect. I had my new wheels put on my Vip a month ago and now all of a sudden I have a low tire indicator - pressure on all tires perfect. Is this typical or is it my fucked up lucK. It may be a sensor issue from Iforged so I am not sure I can bitch about Dodge, but on two cars?
I read the manual on how to troubleshoot, but I hate to have to go buy all the special tools. I will if I need to.
Well, I see our problem as buying a German and DC piece of shit.....
Check your spare tire...they have them too! Also, the calibration might be set for the stock Viper wheels...not the aftermarket set. Different pressures may throw the system off. Stabs in the dark, but valid arguments.
Yeah, the systems suck. Got a rash of vehicles coming in for the light being on due to the temperature drop. Funny thing is, the system was designed to alert the driver of a low tire pressure situation. Put air in the tires, light goes out. Simple. But the current crop of drivers come flocking to the dealership everytime a light illuminates on the dash. Gah.
Try overfilling the tires by 5 psi, then go drive the car up to 40+ mph. The sensors work wirelessly, and have a centrifugal switch for battery life. The tools to properly diagnose these little bastards are expensive, so it might be worth while to bring the car to the dealer if you can't get the light out on your own. The Tire Pressure Monitering System may have a software update needed, or it could be something else entirely.

I guess I will wait till I have a real reason to take them both in. I am not sure I like all the electronics on vehicles these days. My fricking beamer stranded me one time because it died as I slowed down going into a school zone. Come to find out when I touched the brakes some sensor thought I had been in a wreck and shut the fuel system down. Real PITA!

My thoughts exactly!!!! Everytime the temp drops we get a ton of customers coming in "my tire psi light is on". My first question is always "Have a checked your tire psi?" No. It's amazing how 40 years ago the average person basically performed most of there service needs. Now 90 percent of my customers can't even check there own tire psi.

I was at a dealer getting my car inspected. A guy comes in with a Honda Accord and said his neighbor noticed the tire looked low on air. He brought it in as a warranty claim and scheduled an appointment to get it fixed. I wanted to hit him for being an imbecile. I on the other hand ended up sitting in the dealer's parking lot for two hours fixing a wiring issue that was causing my backup lights to malfunction.
