2008 Corvette Z06 will not have a horsepower increase.
It looks like the Z06 may lose its title to the '08 Viper. The horsepower for the 2008 model will stay at 505. Base model C6 gets an LS3 with 430 horse.
I am getting pretty tempted to go and check out the corvette forums right now.......
LOL. I think a lot of the Vette fans were anticipating a horsepower increase from 505 to 550 for the 2008 Z06; citing the increase (385-405 horse) made in the Z06 from the '01 to '02 model years.
Isn't the Blue Devil supposed to be a level above the Z06?
The Blue Devil has been confirmed (I don't know if that's the name they will use) but is a couple of years out still. It has been officially rated by GM to make 650 horsepower. It's impossible to say it will out perform the Viper because the Viper may have a horsepower increase, or a special model analogous to the Blue Devil that would make it equally or more potent.

Or-- maybe the Viper will be underrated. I guess it won't be supercharged according to Lutz-- kinda confusing.
Yes the Blue Devil is coming, from everything credible out there it will be in the 650 hp range. BlueDevil-SS-Sting Ray will have a completely different motor than the stock Z06. The stock z06 motor is so high strung that i would not hold up to the OEM standards for durability and reliablilty with a supercharger added on top. The SS-Sting Ray motor is smaller displacement and lower compression to handle the rigors that the boost pump will add.
The LS7 is just about strong enough to handle a cam and bolt-ons. There have been some bad outcomes when putting boost to it. However, there are a few well running nitrous cars...but again...it's a glitch in the tune away from being a pile of scrap. Either way, those things are potent out of the box. It takes almost nothing to go 10's, and I'm sure cam and bolt-ons would give you a nice, reliable low-10 second car.

To you dragracers "reliable" means "able to complete a quarter-mile run and still drive home."
To us road racers it means being able to beat the snot out of a car lap after lap, year after year for a decade without so much as valve adjustment. GM will never equal that.

Well struck. You must remember that GM can do just that though; remember the Iroc Camaro?
