Ok, taking into consideration the limitations of carfax and what it does not show, has anyone run across a carfax report that shows an accident w/ frame damage and said report is wrong?
Seller swears report is wrong. I tell him he needs to take it up with carfax because no one is going to pay good money for one with an accident/frame damage indicator.
hmm, he definetly needs to get that taken care of if its not true , carfax has become such a common tool for buyers now , everyone is using it , and everyone trusts it ...
If you are interested in the car take it to a Viper tech and have them put it on a lift and check the frame. They will be able to tell.
As for trusting Carfax, look at e-bay and see wrecks that have a "clear" title. Those will be repaired in someone's garage and back on the market with no Carfax reports.
I have never seen a wrong carfax report showing damage history when there is none. The only chance is if the vin was entered incorrectly but I would venture a guess that is not the case. If you are loking to buy a car that has a damage history on carfax make sure you buy it for short money.
The seller sent me his report dated 10-04 and it was clean on an O3, but when I pulled a report it showed the collision/frame damage indicator dated 9-03.
Curiously, my report also stated carfax started reporting from that particular collision repair facility in 05, so I do think the seller got ripped off since he was the second owner.
