Pros and Cons please , Any info is appreciated ...
Im halfway serious about picking up a 1998-1999 F355 B - F1 coupe . I wanted to do some research before I went any further ... Im not completely in the dark when it comes to ferraris but, I need some insight. So if anyone has any experience, please share. Thanks !
Agree with Smackie. Also arguably one of the best proportioned and styled Ferrari's, too. As far as service/reliability standpoint, the dash shrinks, early ones have cam belt issues and header cracking issues.
The good part is depreciation on a freshly serviced/well maintained example has leveled off, so you probably won't lose money if you drive it for awhile then sell it.
http://www.ferrarichat.com Search around their 355 forums. Lots of people have asked these questions over there and they have explanations for all of the known issues as well as what to look out for and avoid.
i was looking into a 99 355 and decided not to do it. the price to keep that car on or off the road is insane. example 3year 15k service is about $7500 if there is nothing wrong with the car. also minor fixes on the car are outragous. you should also take in to acount that there are 2 newer models of the car and resale on them is going to drop as more 430 come in to the country. you are also looking at about $12-15 for a clutch replacement. my good friend who has a 2000 550 and does put about 12k mile ayear on his estimates it cost him 20k a year to drive the car.

Great cars, expensive to maintain. One of the sexiest cars of all time. Love the look outside, don't care for the interior. Side to side with a 360, I would take the 355. All around car, take the 360

You don't really think it costs 12-15K for a clutch on a 355 do you? Enzo, perhaps, but not a 355. 3-5k tops.

I think they have to pull the motor just for service/tune up so over 10K for a clutch would not surprise me. A friend of mine had a 348, 512TR, and F40 said it cost a fortune to keep them up.
I guess I should add too maybe he said it was a fortune cause he owned all three at the same time.

355 + aftermarket exhaust = orgasm. Went to a Ferrari event at Pocono Raceway and the 355 with Tubi sounded better than anything there. Other cars were 308, 328, 348, 360, Testerossa, Viper with full Ballenger setup (sounded damn good), Diablo, Porsche TT, BMW M3, and a few other F-cars I can't remember.
Almost 400 HP, 3000 lbs. I've never driven one, but I can't imagine they are that slow. Although, I guess it depends what you are used too...
Put a 355 right next to a 308/328/348/360/430, and IMO the 355 has the best looking exterior and best lines. And I've seen all them side by side.

The power is seriously overrated on those cars. I've seen more than a few dyno in the mid 200's. They are really slow. Certainly not a car you go buy for the performance.
I agree w/ Smackie. My first Ferrari that I ever drove was a 355 and I was used to Vipers. Needless to say, I was a little dissapointed. Mid range and high speed though, they are pretty quick. Maintenence is not fun on any Ferrari. But if you can pay to play, then go for it.

Wow! I'm surprised to hear that. I seem to remember the mags getting high 12's in the 1/4 and a top speed of 184 or so. Seems it would need more than 250 RWHP at 3,000 lbs to achieve those stats. Of course, the rags are just that, rags.
