Jackpot on the '89 Turbo Trans Am (TTA)

No, I didn't sell it! But I did find some time to really go through the car today, to include tons of stuff the original owner sent along. I knew the car was an all original car with 1,200 miles. But what I didn't know was what level of documentation and things would be with the car.

This is what I found in the car when I went through it today >>

1. It still has the original Lexan t-tops. This is rare because GM recalled them and replaced them with the normal GTA glass tops.

2. It has the original spark plug wires (stamped "20th Anniversary Trans Am") in a box with the original spark plugs. He ran replacement wires and kept the original ones vacuum packed in plastic.

3. It has the original "Official Pace Car" door decals and "Indy 500" windshield decals still in the original box that Pontiac sent after you bought the car. It also had the embroidered TTA jacket and original plastic covers for the seats and steering wheels in another box.

4. In that same box is the manual with all supplements, the credit card style emergency door key, the original key fobs, and an unopened cassette tape that explained the special features of the '89 TTA. Also inside was the "Congratulations" letter you got when buying the car, signed by Pontiac execs.

5. All of the original undercarriage and underhood markings and stickers are still in place and perfectly legible. Even the chalk marks are there! The car was sold new by Jim Witt Pontiac in Lowell, MA. That dealer's emblem is still on the back of the car.

I was pleasantly surprised that this car had every single piece of documention and memorabilia with it. That will raise its future asking price a pretty penny ...

Sounds like a very well documented car, Mike. Congrats on doing your homework and getting a good one.

Nice find. Those are one of my favorite cars. I was happy to see the GN motor make it's way back after Buick axed it.

The IROC was a one-owner car. It's my 'high mileage' car at 3,780! It is 100% like it rolled out, minus the oil and the battery. I have the original pink build sheet, VIN coded owner's manual, etc. I graduated in 1985, the first year of the IROC. So I had to have it!

It wouldn't hurt anything to take it off - My only fear is that it will damage something, and then any respray on the car will decrease the value. I asked the guy why he let them put it on the car, and he said because he liked them and they gave him a good deal. I have the original sales contract - He paid MSRP!

Better than the $10,000 over sticker most dealers were charging. I waited a year and bought mine used with a few thousand miles to save a big chunk of change

Lawrenzo, your post made me go look again - You are right, he paid over MSRP. He financed MSRP, and the downpayment was the mark-up. While there tonight, I snapped a few engine shots. I'll have to get those posted ...
