Bimmer/experience?

Anyone with experience with an 03 BMW m3? I have an opportunity to pick up a VERY nicely done 03 with only 20k on it, for low 40's. Looks like an excellent daily driver. Any thoughts?

6 Speed or SMG? There have been many horror stories about the early 03 cars with SMG.

It is a 6 speed. By "nicely done" I mean that the car has an amazing sound system installed, as well as a very aggressive stance with the right tire and wheel package on this particular car. Seems to have everything I am looking for. I was comparing this car to a few other toys, such as a 2001 Porsche 911, and a 2002 Maserati Coupe. Surprisingly, all three vehicles are within $5000 of each other in price. hmmmm....

Make sure this car is not part of the grenading engine lot. I think they were manufactured up untill sometime in 2003, so you better check out the M3 forums to be sure. I remember reading on some site that you should buy 2003.5 and up for various reasons.

My '06 M3 arrives next week, and I am finally starting to get excited by the prospect of owning it. I guess it helps that I have been without my Viper(or any car for that matter) for 2 weeks now, so the transition should be less drastic.

Go to your local BMW dealer and ask the service manager to run a vin check. They will give the history of the car including every warranty repair done to it. M3 buyers tend to buy the car for performance reasons. You want to do a good background check on the car before buying.
