Unfortunately, engineering prowess and technology implements don't have dick to do with NECKCAR. The France's will move the goal posts in either direction until it's dumbed down enough for some epic 3 hour long traffic jam racing.
That said, the potential comedy in all this is off the charts. Personally, I need to see at least an Asian driver and maybe a little extra wing.
It shall be good no doubt. I will have to rent a tundra and go tailgating with a cooler full of smirnoff ice and tofu burgers to cook up on the solar powered grill. I am sure that will receive a positive reaction.
Japanese automakers are also really, really good at PR and branding. We've known this for years and the fact that they are making record profits during crunch years for the Big 3 attests to that. Let's recap today's news:
Big 3: We broke, cracka! Toyota: Boogity, boogity, boogity...let's go racin'. Konnichewa, y'all!
Sorry, I get more patriotic than most but the Big 3, the UAW, and their collective sense of entitlement run square in the face of the other great American principle that I wholeheartedly support...capitalism.
I think it will be interesting to see how well they are recepted by the NASCAR crowd
Exactly the word I'm sure all the morons that host all the NASCAR shows will use.
I really don't think it will be an issue. Toyota is currently finishing a manufacturing facility in San Antonio that will be building the next gen Tundra and a lot of the Japanese manufacturers have manufacturing plants in the south. The necks now will have the opportunity to cheer for drivers that drive a car they can now buy that won't fall apart or suffer a couple recall notices on the way to the track.

From what I could tell no one really bitched about Toyota racing in the truck series and I think they have a Celica racing in one of the other minor league series also? Plus Penske will be a Toyota factory team.
What you have to worry about is the fact that Toyota will spend any amount of money to win which means out spending Ford, Dodge and GM to the likes which they have never seen and can not compete with. Another thing they have to worry about is Honda coming in, then Nascar will see a budget war like never before which will probably bankrupt the series just like they did to Cart and the IRL.

I dunno how I would sleep if NASCAR had to fold....

Do you really think Toyota would outspend GM? I guess I don't know much about NASCAR and don't know what GM's budget is for that but the size that GM is and I'm sure GM wouldn't want to get taken out by the japs.......I would think that GM would have no problem matching the budget of Toyota.

It would be interesting to see an itemized spreadsheet of GM's racing ventures.

I have no doubt that Toyota will out spend GM, they have the highest budget in F1 I see no reason for them not to win races in Nascar next year. If GM decides to get into a pissing match with Toyota they are screwed, they simply can not afford to spend that kind of money.
Toyotas budget for F1 is rumored at no less than 200 million do you honestly think GM can foot that kind of bill???
Edit:
After doing some more research it looks like their budget is around 450 million, I also found this article that lists the estimated budgets from 03.
