So How Do Ford and Chrysler Counter the C7 Corvette ?
Honestly not expecting much from Chrysler unfortunately based on how they just sort of bent over and grabbed their ankles with the Challenger and Viper but what will they do if anything and more so what will Ford do to combat the new C7 Corvette ?
Say what you will about the Vette but an aluminum frame partial CF body sub 4 second 0-60 car that looks great for low $50k starting price changes the whole game imo.
They are taking orders.... Hype and speculation???? The detractors are surely just people that recently purchased a C6. We know how that sorta thing can happen... hehe
GM is kicking Fiat/ Chrysler's ass right now. There are so many great things that SRT could be doing with the Viper that would really stomp the competition, but they aren't. They have no one to blame but themselves. As for Ford, they could always bring back the GT. After that, what do they have that is in the same league as Viper/ Z06/ Zr-1? The GT500 is nice, but it's still a big heavy Mustang.
The C7 is lighter, wider, lower and has a longer wheelbase than a C6 combined with that rear transaxle design that distributes the weight and COG better. The GenV is basically a steel framed car that was designed in 1989 for the most part. SRT will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to compete on the current platform.
Ford has the GT500 which is a great car for prob what the base c7 will cost. Ford did a great job with that one. 55-60k for 660 warrantied hp. It looks good too.
1,000hp Mustang would still be a 4 seat Mustang...

Exactly this... Total No Brainer. I don't see Ford just throwing their hands up. They need a really compelling car and the FGT even in a mass produced form would be just the ticket.
Wonder when they'll release any info on the next ZO6.
far as Ford, don't think they care. Their selling a shit load of cars and trucks, hell we just took delivery of the 1st 13' Fusion down here for the woman. Yeh they have the GT500 and it kicks ass but it's still a heavier 4 seater car, not a Vette competitor except that it happens to be within price range. Don't know about Chrysler, yeh obviously the Viper is there, but the Vette will always be the cheapest of it's competitors... hell a new 911 now with Porsches jacked up prices cost almost as much as the previous Turbo if you want a decently optioned car... hasn't seem to hurt sales though.
Would be sweet though if Ford came out with something like a FGT successor today with even more power than the GT500.

Yes it would be sweet but if they could mass produce an FGT variant at even $75k with 550bhp they couldn't build them fast enough. I don't care if they have to build it in Guadalajara I want one
I'll bet the profit margin on the GT500 and even the Boss 302 is pretty damn good when you consider that you can get a new v6 Mustang for like $23k.
That slow GT500 is down to 3,850 pounds(compared to the Camaro ZL1's 4,120), and with all the recent improvements it's quite quick around the track. See these Laguna Seca times for comparisons sake. It's only 3 seconds slower than the 2013 Viper Carroll's ghost should be proud of his last effort

I'm impressed with the heavy ZL1 Camaro. On the C&D lightning lap contender test. The ZL1 was in 4th place. It beat the GT500 pretty good..
Mass produce a Ford GT for $75k? Remind me to kick you in the fucking nuts if we ever meet.
