"Idled workers represented by the United Auto Workers union are eligible for unemployment, and the company makes up most of their difference in lost wages. Once their unemployment runs out, workers are transferred to Ford's jobs bank program, where they receive almost full pay and benefits."
So in effect, the American auto worker is a FIXED cost of doing business. The variable cost is whether or not they unlock the doors and turn the lights on at the plant.
How fucked up is that? Detroit fucked up, that's how much.

I hate fucking unions and civil service. They are an affront to capitalism and the last bastion of the sick, the lame, and the lazy.
It seems like there is always about 5 to 7 in the back of Autoweek everyweek. It will be interesting to see how their asking prices will change. From what I saw, the prices had come down pretty close to MSRP.
I'm with Chuck.... the writing was on the wall before the first car rolled off the assembly line, and everyone knew this. I can't see it affecting asking prices by much.
I was SERIOUSLY thinking of getting one here in the near future.... no shit. Well , there goes that idea. As stated above , I think the prices are going to go umm, up a few pennies..

Gerald, could you even fit in one? From your pics, you seem a like a big guy.
Haaaaaaaaaaa. If the fuckin' UAW didn't hold a strike over the companies head we never would have agreed to pay people after they are laid off. No job banks, nothing. But, this is the kind of shit American car companies have to deal with.
As for the GT, they only planned on building it for 2 or 3 years anyways. So it is not like some big shock or something. But, a fucking Mustang Shelby GT 500 cannot fill the void.
