If the C6 is going to look like that and the SRT looks like it does, I hope to hell that they both get face lifts soon and end this "it's whats on the inside that counts" trend. The last thing we need is another decade like the 80s, where damn near every car on the road looks like a big block of shit on wheels.
You did the Viper during your stint at Chrysler, and now Neil Hannemann, who led the Viper team, is doing the GT at Ford. Does GM need a Viper/GT class vehicle, or is the Corvette strong enough to handle that role?
Let me tell you that the Corvette C6 will have versions where we confidently predict it will suck the doors off of both the cars that you just named. The current Z06, with 400 horsepower, on the Gingerman Raceway, laps faster with its 400 horsepower than the new Viper does with 500. So other than just brutal straightline acceleration, the Z06 is faster today. Clearly the C6 Corvette, without giving anything away, is going to be a major step forward in vehicle mass, dimensions, handling, braking and, most important of all, power-to-weight ratio. So I think whatever gap exists now is going to be eliminated — in total performance. I think we'll match the competition in acceleration, and we will beat them in on-road handling. And if the Z06 version of the C6 is not enough to do it, we've got a few tricks up our sleeve, which we're already investigating. But it will always be Corvette-based.
So the Z06 is faster than a SRT-10 uh?
The rest of the article sounds like a bunch of BS.
Just to be clear, that C6 Corvette "picture" above was a Photoshop concept-morph of the features/rumors that the auto magazine had heard about the C6 Corvette. NOT an actual photo. So those ARE actually Viper headlights in that picture. As well as the nose borrowed from the Corvette Tigershark show car, and wheels from another concept car photo.
The actual C6 Corvette will be shown in January 2004 at the Detroit auto show.
Here's a disguised pic of the actual C6 Corvette showing the more teardrop shaped glass canopy with roof divot, and rising, sharply edged fenders.
Other than knowing that the headlights are no longer pop-up units, there have been no actual pics released on the C6 nose or tail design.
From how small the rotors look, I'm guessing that the wheels will be 18"/19" F/R.

Of course the bigger news is under the skin, and we know a bit more about that with the regular C6 Corvette looking to have around 425HP and weigh about 3100lbs, which should make it about as fast as the current Z06, and then a C6 Z06 model will follow in around a year weighing another 100 lbs less and having 500HP.
Hopefully, with the C6 Z06 and Ford GT attempting to de-throne the Viper, that PVO will get moving and make the Viper even MORE powerful.
Personally, I'm hoping that Daimler reaches into the Mercedes parts bin and takes the twin turbo setup off of the CL65 and bolts it up to the Viper for an easy 700HP! :thumb:
