About 8 months ago I convinced the VCA that it was time to upgrade their boards to Threads. The UBB that they were using was about 3-4 years old and missing alot of new technology (for example, UBB uses flat file storage versus Thread's database usage). I had done alot of work with UBB and had converted all my sites over to Threads. I installed Threads, set it up and provided a demonstration to show them what their boards could look like. (Some of you here saw the "test board" way back when).
Alot of effort went into getting the boards ready for a conversion/upgrade - scripts to convert the old messages to the new ones alone took weeks to write/test/modify. Custom modifications (which will need to be redone after I upgrade their boards to the latest Threads version) were written.
Just as I was looking to do the conversion, we had the big fallout and some hardware problems. After that, everything slowed down to a crawl.
I said I would help the VCA with the conversion a long time ago and I'm not one to just walk away from my obligations or commitments. I understand now why the VCA operates their site the way they do and I accept that. I willingly volunteer my time here and there because of the Members and my friendships within the community.
Anyone who has been around the past 6 months should have figured out by now that I do what I think is right; regardless of what other people think. I am really only interested in the coding side of these boards, not the politics of how they are run. If Paul has a problem with that, well, fuck 'em - it's not my problem.
Great job at .org . Much cleaner and seems to be easier to find information. I for one appreciate the work that you "give" to each of these boards on a daily basis. The "windbreaker vs. leather jacket" war is old news. This board is fun and entertaining and beats the hell out of going to the movies.
