I got on the phone today to call a few friends and let them know about my planned move to Houston. I finally called up a friend in another area of CA. The first thing he said is that I would fit in with the ohter "fascists" in texas. And that we were all Nazis!!!!! ME!?!?!?!? Thats like accusing Liz Hurley of having a penis! In the end I realized I was talking to a tree hugging liberal without logic and only a bleeding heart. I had to restrain myself from not hanging up on the guy. But i could not keep my thumb from wandering over to the "end" button on the phone. Resistance was futile and the conversation was terminated. [img]/images/graemlins/soapbox.gif[/img]

i think you need to consider wheter your friend have other qualities that you like and stay friends with him and just avoid politics. I have friends whom i just say "lets agree to disagree and discuss things we both like".
Sure, some people are totally brainwashed, but for the most part this works for me. I am currently in an argument over dinner with an old friend who is so liberal that i want to puke. Now some of you know that i like the "devils advocate point of view" but there are limits to any discussion.

See this is why the US dominates ... it's called the brain-drain. Everybody who's ambitious, smart and self-reliant wants to come here. Good advice par, I ususally do separate politics from friendship until the friend decides to take the offensive side and start issuing "smokin style" verbal attacks that are not of the joking nature and are not lighthearted. Thats when I draw the line. I guess a lot happe in a year when you dont talk to folks for a while...dissapointing.... [img]/images/graemlins/puke.gif[/img]
Don't get me wrong living here is great and all but this whole place is just too damn nice. I wasn't brought up to use everyone as a crutch, or wait for those people that are lazy to catch up so we can all be on the same level of mediochrity. PAAATOOEY! I just can't see myself busting my ass to see HALF of it taken away to nurse people (usually refugees and welfare cases) along in life. Screw that. It's going to be a loooong time before any of that changes, frankly I don't really care to wait that long. Plus the cold sux.

i think it is important to separate the POW from the people. I appreciate your POW as different it is, but please keep in mind what you (sometimes) are wishing for -it may be granted. I can assure you -life under fundamentalist muslim rule will not be fun... We as believer in democracy must fight for the right for everyones point of view -as much as we hate and despice it. But that is a tremendous responsability in that we must fight undemocratic POW while preserving your right to be of a differing opinion.
A balance act, but the western countries are the only ones who have been able to do it. Consider that when you accuse US and some of the members POW.. My advice and my POW.
