I just saw the video . . . most enjoyable. Someone should definitely offer to host it. It's worth a look. Two American icons slugging it out down the 1320. A sweet run indeed. Do we have a host?
Two Z06 guys vouching the video...I wonder who won
Is it the video of the 11.8 @ 115 Z run vs the 12.5 @ 116 Viper run??? With the videotaper saying watch the Z kick the vipers ass I read a thread on Z06Vette.com about it....One guy said that the mph shows the cars are equal
C'mon, doesn't anyone have anything to say about this video, even if it be a little sauce? I thought it was a great race, with both guys handling their respective cars very well. I'd be interested to hear what kind of exhaust some of you more familiar with the notes of the various aftermarket systems for the Viper think is on this GTS. One thing I know for sure is that it's not the stock pipes. Too throaty and full of growl to be stock. Anyway, had the driver of the Viper matched Paul's 1.66 '60, we probably would have needed the photo finish to decide.
Hey, Jerome, you need to drop by E-town when I'm there. A Viper or two has been racing the last six or seven times in a row I've been down.
No, I'm not stock. But I never claimed to be. My mods are in my sig.
I see Vipers from time to time at Englishtown. I can't say they're there every week but you do see them. I think that there just aren't very many Vipers in our area and those who own one may not necessarily want to race their car. They get lots of attention at the track. Everyone flocks to see one up close. They are a truly exotic car. I wish to hell the Z turned as many heads.
Paul, I wasn't saying you were claiming that but the Viper guys are always saying how the vette guys say we are still stock with those mods so I was just poking a little fun with my comment. Still excellent times for the mods you have, obviously great driving.

I gotcha. I'm a little jammed up at work so I misunderstood the comment.
Thanks for the props, boys. That's why I wanted a few snakes mixed in at Atco on the 27th. It just makes racing so much more fun. Two great American performance cars going at it makes for a great show! I wish the driver of the GTS stuck around after the race. I never got a chance to chat with him. He had Florida plates. If you're on this forum, drop me a PM.

Good sleuth work, Snake. :thumb:
nothing vette/viper escapes these beady eyes Cliffy
BTW you check out the "friendly" banter about it on Z06Vette.com
Really? I thought that ANYTHING in the elevens was pretty dang good for a Z06. A lot of the stock Vipers don't run elevens. (At least that's what I've read.) Is that all because of elevation differences?
Bullshit. 11.88 at sea-level? I could do that in my Duramax!
Here we go, here come the stories. I believe I gave the Viper full credit for its run stating that it's difficult to launch the car on street tires and the guy really held his own. As a matter of fact, it seems like he was beginning to reel me in towards the end of the run. If you can cut an 11.88 in your truck then that makes the Viper look that much worse. We were BOTH running at sea level, no? Englishtown hosts the Diesel Nationals each year. I think you'd look like a rock star if you brought your rig down next year and cut an 11.88. Come on down, bro. Cut an 11.88 (at a sea level track) in your truck and I'll take you out in NYC for some adult entertainment on me. You DID mean a stock Duramax-equipped truck, correct? Because if it's modded then you'd probably run in the 9s. You know, it's the sea level thing.
BTW, the DA that nigh was slightly above 2000 if my memory serves me correctly.
Gotta have big balls to knock an 11.88 on a nearly stock car. Or be cutting better times in a nearly stock car of your own. Oh, I forgot, it's the sea level thing.
The guy recording the race was there to film his brother's supercharged BMW 3 Series. He was nice enough to volunteer to send me the clip. Props to him as well.
I'm a fan of sports cars and racing. Period. I'm not posting here because I want to stir up shit (well, maybe a little) but because I like the attitude of the members of this forum and I think the Viper is a helluva car. I've gotten my ass handed to me on more than one occassion and I promise to bring you videos from my track rental as I'll most likely get destroyed by my friend's Viper on a 200 shot. At sea level.
Well, I only drag race on street tires (never tried it on anything else) but I would have to say that race slicks are a HUGE advantage on any car, be it Z06, Viper, or Yugo. I would guess that with slicks the Viper could cut an easy half second off of the times it (the Viper) ran in the video. No diss on the Z06, as that is an excellent time for a car with minimum mods. Still, I prefer watching the video of the 4-cylinder Mustang that waxed a Viper GTS a few years ago. At least that one was more of a surprise.
Hey fuckstick, come run with us at 6,000 feet DA and then tell me how running at or near sea-level is no big deal. Do you even know what the rule of thumb is in ET loss per 1000' of DA increase? I doubt it.
You come on here bragging about your big bad Z06 and no doubt, an 11.88 is plenty respectable but the real purpose of you coming here is to stir the shit up. Well take a whiff bucko!
Biggs, Serious Eric and I went to a local drag strip last fall and handed all the tupperware (vette) boys their asses one after another. Hell, we were practically hot lapping. Then, the real street racers in their F-bodies got in line and we did the same thing to them. So don't come on here acting like one single fucking 11.88 pass against some nerd that couldn't launch his Viper is any big deal. Or, if you do, get ready for some love.
