GT40 vs Ford GT

With all the hype-up (and markup.. 80k? LOL!) about the new Ford GT, I will throw in my .02 on it.

First off, it's not a GT40. A GT40 was an musclecar in exotic clothing. It won LeMans by using pure brute force, something that ferrari and the like hadn't seen before. It is an awesome car, and is still respected as one of the true top supercars of the era.

HOWEVER

The Ford GT is not a GT40. It's a production car who wants to be a GT40. I actually don't like it at all. I personally would much rater have a 100% acurate balls-to-the-wall GT40 replica (built by the people who made the originals no less) than one of these new ford cars. After hearing ford say it was the "anti snob supercar" makes me think they're trying waaay to hard to toot their own horns. Sure it's cool and different.. but she is not a supercar. It's a muscle car with some LeMans influenced styling.

If I was going to pluck the money down, I would want one that was just as raw as the original. Gulf doors, the sound of those syc'd carbs sucking down air and that massive road from behind my head... it's all good! To me, the Ford GT is a just an imitation of the original, it will NEVER be in the same league.

I had no idea. I thought the Ford GT & the GT40 were the same car.

When the Viper RT/10 first debuted, it was being compaired to the Shelby 427 AC Cobra. Also when the GTS debuted in 1996, it too was being compaired to the Shelby Cabra Daytona Coupe.

Personally, I think the new GT(40) is closer to the old original GT40 than the Viper/Cobra comparison.
