I have no problem with athletes making that kind of money but I'm going to start a riot the next time a community uses taxpayer funds to build stadiums and arenas for them.

how do you figure A-Rod sucks? he has won the AL homerun title the last 2 years. he was the first shortstop with over 50 HRs, and he was hands down the best player in the leauge last year (Tejada won the MVP for some fucking reason). the Rangers suck, no doubt about it, but A-Rod is AMAZING! there is only so much he can do playing shortstop. he hits over 300 every year, hits the most bombs in the leauge, and has an AWESOME fielding percentage. but, when not every ball is hit to you, you dont go to the plate everytime, and you dont pitch, your impact is limited. the rangers pitching sucks, how can A-Rod lead around that? he cant...

He had his very best season ever, got the highest salary ever, even though he has had a good time since, since his best season, the reason for best salary in the league, has not been duplicated.
If they have a good season, which causes high pay, they should at least be consistent. If not, call it luck, and return the money.
Even though McGuire and Sosa did not replicate their season that brought them to everyone's attention, they were consistent afterwards.
it is hard to follow up a .330 57 120 season! it just is.... but a .300 48 120 season isnt bad by any means. hell, number 1 in HRs, and number 2 in RBIs, and he isnt a good player? please. that is pretty consistent if you ask me. he got his contract BEFORE his back to back MVP type seasons. he got his big money contract to get him to Texas, and he is produced better here than in Seattle. i am not saying he is worth 25 mil a year, b/c i dont think any player really is (Bonds maybe), but to say he isnt a good player anymore just isnt accurate. he still is THE best overall player in the AL by a long shot
O.K. I am man enough(or fully grown boy) to admit my mistake.
I don't remember where I got the information, but I must have him confused with someone else.
I have to admit, I do not really like professional sports as much as college level sports, except racing(non-NASCAR).So, I relied on articles, stats, but as I said, I must have confused him with someone else.
1996 breakout season
1997 slacked off some
1998and 1999 picked it up, boy did he pick it up, because.....
2000 $252,000,000 10-year deal with Texas Rangers.
But then again, is he worth it, $25,200,000 per year.
I still bought baseball stuff for friends, niece, nephews, etc., but after their last strike, when they said they wouldn't, and did, they lost what money I did give them.
Now my baseball hats don't have baseball teams on them(something's wrong with that), and it's their fault.

I agree, same with movie stars!! Have you seen those commercials where they have all the people on the set talking about how movie piracy takes away their jobs? Well quit paying the stars 20 million a film and lower your admission prices!!
