A guy in Houston went to jail for burglary. He was sentenced to 45 days (already had some time served too) and that's it. He escaped from jail cause he couldn't do 45 days and now the judge gave him 25 years today.
That does not sound right?
25 years for escaping a 45 day charge??? their had to be something else that occured during the escape like assalt or some other felony. just my thoughts.
WOW here in LA 45 days is basically..... turn yourself in on Friday and get released Sunday because the jails are full. They consider your full term served and your back at work/school on Monday.
The judge is just trying to make a name for himself for being a hardass. If all the guy did was escape from a 45 day sentence there's no way he gonna do 25 years. It'll be overruled and he will be put on house arrest.

Chuck...I would have to disagree with you on this one...Federal sentencing guidelines are such these days, that alot of times, judges don't have a choice in the matter...This is actually the subject of much debate these days, between both Democrats and Republicans...With no room for "special circumstances", sentences can be fairly cut and dry, based on a defendants prior record...Which is why alot of three time losers get their last strike for crimes as petty as shoplifting...The judges are bitching about this bigtime, and I don't blame them...
Back when I was clerking for a federal judge, we had a case where a guy had 1 rock of crack cocaine allegedly held for distribution. He was found guilty. The sentencing guides gave no discretion in the matter--he got 188 months. Over fifteen years for one rock! And in federal jail, you serve your time.
I always remember judges being assholes when they didn't need to be, but I don't doubt things may have changed. Sounds like the sentencing guidelines are a work in progress and a few folks are going to get royally screwed in the process.
