This is the first year I'll be storing my Viper at my new home rather than paying for heated storage elsewhere. I have the place insulated and ready to go, but when I started to look at options for heating the place, I was a bit overwhelmed.
I just want to keep it around 45F through the winter; but I do want the option to stoke it up to around 65-70F if I want.
Brands? Options? Venting? I have propane or electric as energy options.
I've read I need minimum 60K BTUH for a 4 car garage?
I use a relatively cheap ReddyHeater, plumbed into the gas line for the house. Works great for me, but I just have a two car. No venting, really no smell. Life is good...
Got a bit dusty over the summer, but here it is.
Gah. Still an annoyingly large picture, I'll just link it.
There was a thread about this before - I think on Vipernation. I have a reddy heater in my garage but I only use it when I'm going to work on the car - not all winter. You would want something with a thermostat that regulates the temp.
I think PaulB maybe was the guy with the knowledge on this one - or maybe GTS Dean or Mark O
You Chic...wait until Confrontational gets back from Europe...He just gotta a phenomenal deal on a very efficient heater, that will keep your garage very warm...Dunno the details, but he can fill you in this weekend...I'll remind him of this thread...Another one of our guys got the exact same system for his shop...
All the details on my vendor are at home - I'll have to remember to post it so you can look at that unit online...
Yeah, in addition to the humidifier - you also need to get yourself and industrial air cleaner - they bolt up to the ceiling and should keep everything dust free... I am still trying to decide between two units...
I'll get back to you in regards to the R60 unit I have being installed hopefully later this week... Insulating the crap out of everything right now... My plasma is not supposed to be operated under 35 degrees - so I need to heat the garage... Infrared heating...
The guy also estimated that to keep it around 50 degrees - until I turn it up when I know I'm going to be out there - should cost around $700 for the entire winter... Not too bad... Plus my vipers can rest in comfort...
It is gas. I was going to go for the R45 - but at the last minute we all changed - rather have too much heat... Actually, the guy thought that the 45 would be fine... I think there are two larger models as well - I have the brochure at home - I'll get the site for you...
Venom - who did you find to blow that insulation in? I am having my contractors trying to track this down for me - but I haven't heard anything yet - and would like to get it done when I am out of town...

Well, the builder (C. Smith- gracious VCA party host from Sept) is arranging it for me. I'm not sure who he is specifically arranging to do it, but I've heard companies advertise on local radio about easily doing it to homes. I assume your GC will not have any trouble finding a local insulation company with the capability of handling it. Look up "insulation" in the yellow pages and you can surely find some qualified companies.
Point is - it's not something nationwide that I could put you in touch with locally in MN.
I know we are just going in through the attic above the garage and blowing it down into the openings between the studs. It'll probably take about an hour to do it. If you don't have attic access, most just pop 1" holes into the drywall and shoot it straight in and re-spackle. Rocket Science it ain't. You may even be able to rent the insu-blower or whatever it is. Either way, good luck.
