Sunday, at the game between the Eagles and the Buffulo Bills...Rush Limbaugh said on ESPN's pregame show that he did not think McNabb was as good as he was perceived to be, that the media have overrated the Philadelphia Eagles' Donovan McNabb because they want to see a black quarterback succeed.
What is wrong with that statement?
Limbaugh did not back down during his syndicated radio talk show Wednesday. "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."
It gets even better...The newly self proclaimed "Democrat", Wesley Clark, said Limbaugh should be fired. The retired Army general called the remarks "hateful and ignorant speech."
Yes. Fucking OF COURSE??!!
Don't you know?
- It's the Jews.
- If a white guy said it, it's racist.
- If a Republican said it, it's racist ... I don't care what color he is.
- America is wrong.
- Conservatives are mean.
I don't know if his comments are racist - but then again, I'm not black and except for my current situation, have never been in the minority.
However, I would imagine that alot of people feel that because he used color as the basis for his claim that it demeans McNabb's accomplishments by labeling him a "black quarterback". Assuming, of course, that you read "black" as a negative.
What if someone other than Rush had said it - say a black sports analyst? Would the comment have generated such a firestorm? But when you have someone as white as Rush (perceived as a racist) making the comment, people probably have good reason to suspect his choice of words.
Rush is no idiot - he's very media savy and probably picked those very words to create this controversy.

the answer to your question SB; yes it was/is a racist remark. Now if it was intentional or not, who knows. But like Packet said, rush is no idiot, probably a ratings tactic.

just ask yourself SB, would this ever be said about a "white" QB??? I dont think it would. A "white" QB would just be referred to as a QB. So why bring race into the subject, i think we all know who Donovan McNabb is. But like PJunkie said, it might have been a ratings ploy.
O.K., I saw Johnnie Cochran's statistics for black coaches, and it was impressive, wasn't it?
Well, there is a problem though, when I took statistics, it said you had to have at least 30 samples, in order to get an accurate statistic.
So, if we use J. Cochran's, we need to only get the same number of white coaches, starting from the top.
Or, we need to be sure players are adequately respresented statistically among non-blacks, also.

You're missing the point...The media hyped McNabb because they want a black quarterback to succeed...I have no problem with that...But if said quaterback sucks, then how is it racist to point this out...Same thing happened up here with Daunte Culpepper...the media hyped him up as the "great black hope" and for his first two years...he sucked...The media doesn't "hype" white quarterbacks, because they want them to succeed...
And you say Rush is wrong for pointing out the Liberal media's flaw??? ARE YOU THIS NARROWMINDED!?!
I don't know anything about Rush. So his comments may very well have been racist for the mere fact that he may be a racist. But..........from the outside looking in. Not knowing anything about his background & hearing what he said, his comments were not racist.
Exactly, the point was that he was hyped because he was black. That doesn't make the comment racist, nor anything else about the discussion.
Its like saying the fact that Tiger Woods is black, or the Williams sisters are black was never mentioned by the press in their successes. The media loves to show the "black" athlete from the pjs, or public housing, or what not.
He didn't say McNabb sucked because he was black, he said he was hyped by the media because he was black, and he was. Imagine if Tiger had just crapped out and didn't win anything - he was hyped beyond all belief. Its the same principle.

And for the record. I live, eat, sleep, and breathe sports. And I've never seen the media "hype" DM because he was black. You & several others keep saying it, but that's not true at all in my opinion.

1. Are you saying the media doesn't hype black quarterbacks?
2. And do you make your living as a sports analyst?
