Tonight on the News, sorry I was not paying total attention to which channel, but about being struck in traffic.
Over 51 hours a year, per person and cost us Over 60 billion in lost Production, so to my pea brain, it makes Iraq costs look better all the time. So, if we are pissing away that much just in traffic jams, why not put our money to good use to rebuild Iraq. I know that you will not agree, but think of all the money we (USA) just flush away every year. At least we have some concept of where the money is going. I know the Vice President connection to contractors, etc. Maybe everyone would be happy, if we elected Bill Gates, he has a great resume. Obviously, he can run one of the worlds largest companies and international trade. Or is the consensus that he is another H. Ross Periot. I have to admit that at this moment GWB has stepped into the Bog.

The average rush-hour driver wasted more than two full days - about 51 hours - sitting in traffic in 2001, according to an annual report released Tuesday by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University. That's an increase of four hours in the last five years.
The price tag: $69.5 billion in wasted time and gas, said the study, which looked at 75 urban areas.
I saw that. I was amazed that NYC wasn't near the top of the list. Seems weird that a city like Ft. Lauderdale has more congestion than NYC. They must be "measuring" Ft. Lauderdale traffic congestion in a 3 square block area at 8:30 AM on a Monday morning. I think that some of the parameters excluded common sense.
Obviously, they never tried to cross the George Washington or other bridges and tunnels in the morning, noon or afternoon. I used to cross in the middle of the night to get to Valley Stream and spend the night in the truck to avoid the bridge traffic and there are always accidents and breakdowns.

Remember, the study was done by Aggies! <ducks>
I used to live in LA and I was expecting the WORST traffic, but it really wasn't that bad - certainly WAY better than Boston. I am always amazed people say it's so bad out there.
And I am stunned NYC is not on the list - if you're trying to get into downtown NYC around 8-9am, you better set aside 2+ hours to do it. And I've been in Atlanta during rush hour and I was surprised how quiet it was compared to other places I've seen/been. Weird.
LA is horrible! i was trying to get to one of my client's concerts out in san bernadino on a friday night. i left fucking LA at 2 pm and it took me until fucking 7 pm to get to San Berdu!!! without traffic its a fucking 1 to 1 1/2 hour drive!!!! traffic was at a dead stop at 2 pm!!! it was stop and go the whole way!
but seriously, where's austin on that list? austin is way worse than dallas.
