A European that makes 100mill+ and drives for Ferrari. How would he do in NASCAR?
I don't know, But I am Sure he would buy a pair of boots and pull every southern fried Anna Nicole piece of tail in the south
Those NASCAR boys can drive...no doubt. Case in point; about 3 months back on SPEED channel, they had this publicity shindig with Montoya and J Gordon. They were at Indy (if I remember), and they essentially swapped cars for numerous laps. It lasted for an hour on SPEED. From what I remember, Montoya was 4-5 seconds slower than Gordon in Gordon's stock car. BUT, Gordon was only 1-2 seconds off the times of Montoya in the F1. Even the announcers were blown away. This guy can drive.
I figure Michael would do something similar. But I would say that fellows like Earnhardt, Gordon and the top drivers are just as able as the Schumachers of the world...if not better.
Without the shit talking I think it might be a challenge for him AT FIRST. The cars are quite a bit heavier and will push more in the turns. The brakes and tires will wear and fade faster, and the type of racing (turning only one direction) will limit what he can do. Thing is, its obvious that his skillset is far beyond what the yokels in nascrap can pull off. Give him a race or two and I think he would dominate.
i think he would have trouble..seeing as he doesnt get the electronic nanny systems that he has in the f1..and in f1 ur not always 1 foot away from someone..i have witnessed several races where MS has messed up in close traffic

Anybody else catch this?
I saw the whole thing...interesting for sure but remember 2 seconds slower means almost 3 minutes behind in a 75 lap race at Indy. That is not impressive at all. I am sure with some work..Gordon would do ok.
Also...asking a F1 driver to drive a stock car is like asking an F-16 ace to jump in a B-52 and perform the at the same level....too big of a difference in my book.
Both Schuey's, Mike & Ralfie, have said they DON'T like thinking about racing on Ovals. The Ovals flat "scare them". Now that may be looking at Cart or IRL open wheel cars at places like Indy, Michigan, and Fontana, but they have said in interviews they think Ovals are too dangerous!
I'm not sure if that would carry over to NA$CAR... but... with restrictor racing at Daytona & Talledaga, I don't think they would be happy! Would they be competitive, if they were to run on Ovals, yeah probably.

MS also races carts and cleans house every time. They have no assistance what so ever. face it...MS RULES!
sure MS makes mistakes but geez...he holds almost every record their is in F1 including a 6th world title he will rap up in two weeks.

That is what I think would be the difference. Once Gordon got over his fear (as Joker pointed out) he was putting down some good times. You don't even have to downshift in an F1! I didn't know that...
He would embarrass himself. It would be like having Michael Jordan play baseball. Imagine what Schuey would say when they first put him in the car, "What's this rod sticking out of the floor for?"

They can downshift if they want to. I think MS and montoya both downshift, but if the driver wanted to he could set up the computer so he would not have to do either. MS has said it numerous times the driver aids help them push the car to its limit they do not drive the car for the driver. I think he would do extremely well in nascar, look at the dominant drivers right now most of them have some type of open wheel experience before nascar, stewert in the IRL, gordon did USAC ect.
I like both forms of racing, but does the driver really make that much different in F1 or is it the setup? When a car is mentioned it is usually something about the engine build riding on a certain chassis and oh by the way, it's being driven by "Joe Schmoe". Not taking anything away from MS, but in the same light, I think it is a consensus that Jeff Gordon is probably the best natural driver in NASCAR. That being said, when was the last time anyone besides a DEI car had a shot at winning at Talledega, Daytona, etc where they obviously have an ace up their sleeve with set-up advantages. Hell, you could put Christian Fittipaldi in Waltrip's car on Sunday and he could of won. Just kiddin', but you get my point.
How many years will it be before F1 says screw it. We really don't need drivers anymore. We'll just set the car up to run at its optimum levels and statistical probabilities based upon the setup will determine the race winner. RCF1, anybody? I know this whole premise is a little far-fetched, but my point is M. Schumaker wouldn't do SHIT in NASCAR if he didn't run for one of the teams who always put cars in the front. Put MS with the admin and pit team for Casey Mears or some other WinstonCup schlep who finishes below 30th place every race, and I doubt he could add 10 spots to the average finish position.
I think he would fall asleep and die of boredom....I can hear the announcer now: "M. Shumacher fell asleep at the wheel in turn 4 of the 20th lap while leading by 19 laps causing a massive pile up. What a way to lose one of the greats"...
I was watching a race last year where MS stated he was so bored (he was leading by about a minute) that he was watching the jumbo TV's to pass the time until he took the win.
Didn't we have a nascar guy get into road racing a few years back? They all freaked out because he was rubbing.
Bored? LOL He wouldn't be bored with 30 cars banging into him for 3+ hours. He'd probably say "Fuck this! These guys are crazy!" and come into the pits.

At Talladega, on the last five laps, 30 cars running 200 mph... :bawling:
