PLEASE! Does anyone! ANYONE! Have any solid/reliable information on the SRT/Coupe? Somebody on this board has to have some connections/favors to get us some solid/reliable information. Can ANYONE make a call and report back?
My source at my dealership is saying 2006. Possibility for 2005 but not likely at all. But thereagain he's not sure of anything either. Any help from the guys who've been around a while would be appreciated.
Weaver said it was in writing that a coupe was in development. he said 2005, but that could have changed. he told me and Snatch this about 5 months or so ago. it is official, but the year is TBD
Everyone is talking about a coupe like it's a sure thing... from what I have heard it is NOT a sure thing at all. The last I heard the truth was there was NO official word on a coupe. That doesn't mean PVO guys aren't thinking of ideas for a coupe, but as far as I know, it is not official at *all*. I've even heard it's not 50/50 but more likely it WON'T happen than it will. Finally, I have heard it will very much depend on what Chevy does with the C6 and what other cars are coming down the line. I hear PVO wants to keep the Viper #1, so if someone else comes out with a shocker (looks like the GT-40 won't be it though) then PVO could respond with a coupe and more HP.
Whenever I hear people talking about what year the Coupe will come, it sounds like they know something I don't, but everything I know says there is nothing official at all on a coupe. But I could have heard wrong of course.
On the other hand, doing a coupe ain't a simple job. Everyone says "just take the Comp Coupe and adapt it". That is a totally different animal. A 2005 car would be rolling down the assembly line in 18 months... given there is NO design made up yet, there is no way that is going to happen, IMO. I would say 2006 would be the *earliest* they could do it.
I too have heard that it is NOT on the drawing board right now. Too many other things going on at DC and the Viper isn't a big money maker anyway. Besides, it was a company-saver back in 1992, whereas with Mercedes and all their AMG stuff the Viper isn't as essential to the lineup as it once was.
Of course, my hopes are that they release a coupe!

I think that COULD be a big kicker from DC.....MBZ and their AMG cars. With the CL65, SL65, and other cars coming down the pipe, they would all be cars that would out-perform the Viper, Coupe or SRT. It would take one helluva redesigned coupe to outdo what DC has done for the MBZ AMG lineup. As of now its over 100hp and over 150 ft-lbs of torque shy of the upcoming CL65AMG. So whatever they release wont be king shiznitz anyways.
I don't even think the mercedes part of it has anything to do with it. The cars do not overlap at all, I highly doubt any mercedes is cross-shopped with a Viper. A coupe will come. They denied it before and they're denying it now. I wouldn't worry.
Thanks to everyone who posted w/ information. I'd hoped that someone had an inside track on a 2005 model. Maybe someone else will chime in & join the discussion with something new they've heard. Chris & Mike kinda discouraged me but it's that kind of information that I NEEDED. Thanks guys. When this all started, I honestly thought that by now, there would've been plans on the table for a Coupe. I would've bet money on it. Do you think it's the lack luster sales of the SRT that pushed the Coupe back? DC thinking, "We're gonna make a certain amount on this, regardless of the year, before anything else comes out." I heard that some dealers are discounting SRT's over $10,000 just to get rid of them! That says a lot.
Bear in mind there was a "private sale" for the first year of SRT's, so DC doesn't really have any solid sales numbers. They probably DO see dealers discounting them from MSRP just to get them off the lot though, and I bet that ain't sitting too well with them.
I would think that when ordering opens up and has been open for a few months, they will know more about their sales. I think the SRT has not been as well received as they hoped in the media. I think they ought to just cancel the SRT and do a coupe *instead* (not as well as). They have a tough job ahead of them though if they want to save the line, IMO. The comp-coupe looks nice because it's so low. I don't know if there is a way to stree-ize that car without killing the looks. The CC looks VERY similar to the SRT, IMO.

I honestly thought that the only reason they even did the Competition Coupe was really for the Coupe Version of the SRT. You know.....R&D for the Coupe line. I've had an itch lately that I plan to scratch here really soon. I'd HATE to scratch and then a Coupe roll off the line! Ya know what I mean? I'd also heard that DC planned on releasing a street legal Competition Coupe REALLY soon. Now something like that seems feasible to me. But it's just rumors. That's the problem. I wish that rumor was coming from a reliable source. Have you heard anything about that one Mike? Can you imagine a Competition Coupe that was street legal? Something like that could be done rather quickly no?
