MILFORD -- A video of the June 13 crash that killed two Orange teens shows a Milford police cruiser traveling at a high rate of speed as it struck the young couple's car under a flashing traffic signal.
The video released Tuesday is from the dashboard camera of another Milford cruiser and shows Officer Jason Anderson's car pass on the right and plow into a 2008 Mazda carrying Ashlie Krakowski and David Servin. The Mazda was struck as it made a left turn from the Boston Post Road onto Dogwood Road at 2:13 a.m., sparks and small flames shooting from underneath the vehicle.
Officer Rick Pisani at one point was traveling at more than 70 mph, according to the dashboard camera, as he and Anderson returned to Milford after a mutual aid call in West Haven. Pisani was going about 65 mph when Anderson shot past him on the right; the speed limit on that stretch of the Boston Post Road is 40 mph.
The two-minute video segment was released in response to a state Freedom of Information request by the Connecticut Post. It covers the nearly half-mile stretch between the Utopia 77 Lounge in West Haven, from where the officers left, and the crash site. An earlier video segment, also screened Tuesday by Chief Keith Mello, shows Pisani leaving the scene of the West Haven mutual aid call while Anderson's cruiser is still there.
Anderson has been charged by State Police with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in the teens' deaths. He will be arraigned Nov. 24 in
If I am reading the article correct they were not even responding to a call, what the hell reason did he give for exceeding the speed limit by that much?
Mello confirmed that neither Milford cruiser had its light bar or siren on, and that neither officer was being dispatched to another call at the time of the crash.
State law requires police officers traveling without lights and sirens, and not dispatched on a call, to obey prevailing speed limits, the chief said.
The cop with the camera saw his buddy coming up from behind him and tried to keep up but quit at 72mph. (camera data upper bar) The passing cop on the right continued over 90mph until he hit the Mazda. He didn't even try to brake until almost hitting the victims so he was probably watching his buddy with the camera in his rear view mirror. (The black box data should have his exact speed when eventually released)
My guess is the Mazda driver was probably focused on the headlights of the slower cop car with the camera when judging the turn, and never even saw the 90mph cruiser.
The other night I followed an out of jurisdiction cop tailgating cars on the interstate and going 80 in a 55 construction zone before I peeled off. I got his number and wrote the Chief a letter the next day with the car #, date, and time. The cops in that town are infamous for their revenue collection. It may not do any good but if he ever crashes into someone and a FOIA is requested it will not bode well for that sorry ass department.
Give someone a badge and they think they are John Wayne.
The cop in the vehicle that recorded the crash is now being investigated for going 70 mph in a 40 mph zone without lights, siren, or a call. The only reason that the video is available is that the cop turned on the "save" button after the crash.
How many cops that had a stronger self-preservation instinct, more sophistication, and less morals would have kept going or thought to not keep the recording? That cop could have basically walked from this if he hadn't turned his video recorder to "save". The GPS data in the car isn't that precise, so as far as what anyone could prove, he could have claimed that the car that crashed must have been behind him and never caught up. Good for him that he stopped to render aid, but I'm sure a lot of cops would have done anything to keep their own ass out of the sling.

Good for him? The mans a party to a double murder. In less than a half mile, two cruisers pulled out and hit 70+ mph? If I did that, I'd have a 6 point ticket in my lap.
Fuck them both. I say string em up and let the families of the dead kids stone them.

"Good for him", meaning I'm glad he stopped, because I bet a lot of cops would have done anything they could to not be implicated as a cause in that diaster, whether that meant lying, looking the other way as they kept going, or planting "evidence".

As a reward he gets to be the scapegoat!!! Although he is still complicit.....
Now they are looking into whether the two teens were drinking prior to the accident.......WHO THE F#$% CARES!!! They broke no laws in the moments I saw!!!

My little brother was hit by a cruiser that was traveling at a high rate of speed, without lights (of any kind) and in the turning lane. When the dust settled, the cop had the nuts to hand my brother a ticket for a slew of BS charges, even though he was hit in the rear quarter and it destroyed his Toyota 4-runner.
My brother is a working guy, electrician by trade and didn't have a lot of cash to fight it. Luckily, there had been an internal investigation going on about the same cop and the police department's Internal Affairs contacted him.
They eventually dropped all charges, but his insurance had to pay the claim, in the end he lost about $4k because they depreciated his 4-runner and he owed more than it was worth.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, his wife and 2 daughters were in the car as well. Luckily no one was hurt.

Something similar like that happened to my brother. He was taking off from a stop sign and a cop came flying by. My brothers car t boned the cop and he spun out.
If that were one of my kids he MURDERED....I would hope that they would put him in with the general population after he is convicted....I'b bet they would shank him within 2 days.
