That's a whole lot of gold toofs! I think I would have knocked off a chunk and swallowed it. When I made it back home, I'd pretend like I was the goose from Jack and The Beanstalk, and shit out a golden egg!
Seems like I saw a story on those pics that said it turned out to be melted brass from shell casings. Not meaning to rain on anyone's parade, I'll see if I can find that story. An I love Eric's suggestion and agree wholeheartedly. Just wish it really was gold...

I was wondering about this. I'd be interested to see if you can find the truth about it.
Gold is REALLY heavy: 1200 lb/ft^3. The last pic of the guy holding the bar doesn't look right.
If that bar is 12" x 5" x 3" it weighs about 125 pounds.

Real gold isn't like the gold in the movies.
I was sorta thinking the same thing about the truck vs. the weight of the gold inside.
It would be a tremendous amount of mass. If the gold isn't 24k, wouldn't the average carat value make it less dense? Obviously, it would still be heavy as hell. I have my doubts about the tires on the truck handling that much load. And why aren't there M-16's and M-60's all around? Only *two* sidearms visible in the whole series of pics?

Ya know, in the movie The Heist it looked like the gold was pretty damn heavy. Even bars probably a quarter the size of the ones pictured above weren't passed around. They were pushing them on the floor with both hads and they weren't sliding around. I've never held a substantial amount so I had no idea how heavy it really was.
American troops confiscated what they believe may be gold bars worth up to €417m after stopping a truck at a road block.
The truck carrying 2,000 bars was stopped at a military checkpoint near Qaim, a north-western city near Iraq’s border with Syria, said US Central Command.
The bars still must be tested to make sure they are gold, Central command said.
Two people were arrested but it was unclear who they were, their nationality, and where they got the bars.
“The occupants told the soldiers that they had been paid about €250 to pick up the truck in Baghdad and drive it to an unnamed individual in Al Qaim,” Central Command said. “The two had been told that the bars were bronze.”
Soldiers conducted a search of their Mercedes truck and discovered approximately 2,000, 40 pound, 10 inch long bars.
Based on the analysis provided in previous posts, this 40lb. bar should have wieghed 125lbs.
I'll keep looking for the story that disproves the myth.
