A morning view off the back deck of the farmhouse. Those hills on the horizon are about ten miles away.
I don't know why, but this picture makes me think of a scene out of the civil war. I can almost imagine lines of grey troops marching out of the fog down in the valley.

I pictured hordes of illegals, with as much pot as they can carry, spilling in over a porous border...

DING DING DING!! We have a winner! Where is the damn Border patrol when you need them!
Nice picture Eric. My parents have a ranch out in the Hill Country and its pretty damn quiet out there as well.

I'm just glad that our beloved Texas Hill Country isn't on fire....
I could almost envision William Wallace and bis band of merry makers materializing from the fog. Cool pic!

You are a negative, bitter, mean little man. Somebody has to carry the pot. You think I'm gonna do it? I'm sitting on my deck drinking Jack Daniels and beer.
Trey, have you ever slept in a tent? Why do I find that even hard to imagine? Somehow I picture Jeeves, carrying his backpack in the wilderness, following Trey around with an ornate silver platter, silk napkins, and Grey Poupon. Meanwhile Trey yells "over here" in excitement after spotting a cleaering to mount the satellite dish.
That is really pretty! Let me guess, growing a white grape varietal there? Chardonnay perhaps?
<hr /></blockquote>
Actually Blanc Du Bois, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The Blanc Du Bois is not well known or commonly used as a varietal wine, but was chosen for it's success in the harsh Texas climate and it's resistance to Pierce's disease which is ravaging vines in California and Texas.
The Semillon is yielding quite poorly and is about to be ripped out and replaced with more Cabernet which surprisingly does quite well here. Last spring and summer was horrendously wet and we lost the entire white crop due to mold. The Cabernet came through with flying colors though ... I think due to the grape's extra tough thick skins. The San Giovessi also did well but they're younger vines so it's hard to tell yet.
In normally dry/hot years the real star is the Blanc Du Bois. Yields like mad, produces lots of sugar and actually makes a very nice appetizer wine when blended with a bit of Sauvignon Blanc ... much like a German Riesling.
