Well, I took some code Don wrote and have been busting my ass to make it where we could have a gallery of Viper owners cars and their mods. The idea would be you could have your own "page" which had an image of your Viper and then any modifications/comments you wanted to put on there. I'd have a Browse/Search feature for people looking at cars and also be able to link people's profiles to their Viper Gallery if a user has one.
Its combined in with the FACTS pages and already integrated into the user system here in the forums. Taken to the 9th degree, I could even tie in Product Reviews for modifications that a user has added which are in the Product Reviews section.
Before I go any further with this - do people see this as a feature they would use? It is alot of work, but after three hours of just writing the Upload/Submit portion, I am wondering what people think before I continue.
i would definately be interested. if i am the only one, then dont worry about it. im sure toby will be all over it too, he is the blue and white picture whore pretty cool idea,i hate having to dig through old threads trying to find specific viper pics from before.
MP, just an idea. You should make it to where the owner can post more then 1 pic and also be able to upload a sound file of the exhaust combo they have. Just my .
I've planned on having one primary picture and up to 4 or 5 other pictures uploadable which would appear as clickable thumbnails under the primary photo. I hadnt considered a sound file, but that might be do'able (at some point).
I like the way it ties in with the reviews section here. If you guys go in and write reviews, the upload section pulls data from there. So the more products in the reviews section, the more options you can check off during the upload.
You can even edit your Gallery using the "edit" link under the title when viewing your own gallery. Only registered users can submit a gallery.
I'll finish up the search functionality, put links in Profiles for users with galleries and then link the product reviews to Owners Galleries for people who have modifications installed.
I would encourage people to upload Products for reviews as this will make the whole system shine - owners galleries linked to product reviews (which link to vendor reviews). Great for people who want to research mods and see how they look on people's cars.
