Is there a way for members to find out if ........

anyone here is posting under different names other than checking their profile and the honor system?

I have seen some boards (http://www.clubcobra.com) that post the IP addresses at the bottom of each post.

My gut tells me there is a lot of crap going on in message boards and it would help keep this place clean.(or clean it up)

We ran a poll to ask if alter egos would be allowed. People voted to allow them. They do, however have to be registered with the moderators. If they get out of hand, it is stated that they will be removed or exposed. If we find an alter ego that is not registered. Both the member and the alter ego will be banned.

Well, the moderators can see IP addresses. We have a profile that asks people to register alter-egos and so far people seem to be using it (of course, thats an honor system thing).

My feeling is that you elect Moderators with the understanding that they are looking out for the boards best interest. If someone is fucking with the board, more than likely the Moderators will seek out help in indentifying who it is.

I'm not a fan of putting IPs in every message for everyone to see; but I do know many boards make the information available to all. Its a flip of a switch, but I dont know that its a switch we should flip.

I have no problem with alter egos myself...I was thinking of doing one myself just for fun.

I just thought this would be a self regulated way of showing everybody not just the mods who is who. (not accusing or not showing any distrust at all)

It keeps it out in the open with no chance of "the mods know more than the rest" kind of thinking.

So make a poll... ask everyone if IP addresses should be available for all to see...

But, as it relates to recent events, an IP address wont give you the information you are asking for.
