I had a 53 Chevy 1/2 ton for quite a while. Not 24v.
Do you have any pics? Do you drive it often?
Unfortunately no pics handy. It was my first car (bought it at 15) and I restored it over the years. Built several motors for it (283, 350, 327) and ended up sticking with a '67 327 vette engine, a Muncie M-22 four speed and a late model 4.54:1 rear end. It sat in my garage for a long time and I finally sold it to make way for my first Viper in '95. Damn I loved that truck. There were two flavors of it, the five-window and the three. I had the three-window.
Lol.. that purple viper guy is me. and I'm the one with the unimog as well.. (1963 Custom Mercedes with 15k miles) it will kick the crap outta that powerwagon both offroad and for sheer brute looks plus it seats 5,(and it's a Mercedes to boot). I just got back from a weekend Unimog meet last night and should have some great footage of all the carnage. As for price, what are you looking to spend?? For 25k you can be kicking the teeth in on all the Hummers in the neighborhood
I am looking for a tough looking vintage truck that will fit in my garage and be able to use it for daily driving and light work. Maybe some off roadin' but not much.
I really like the vintage American military look too.
Almost forgot.. what would you like to know about 24 volt? my truck runs it (used a 24-12 converter for running cb's/ radios/ etc off of). Definitely a better system than 12 imho.

So its easy to work on? what about batteries and charging systems? Easy to get parts?

Thanks!
Charging system straightforward, batteries are just dual 12 volts (I run the Optima Gel Cells). Charging system on mine is generator driven, again straightforward, easy to work on, runs cooler than 12 volt and bulbs can be purchased at your nearest Napa type store. Just have to be careful not to run goodies off of a single battery as it will imbalance and end up frying one of your batteries.
I have a 55 Chevy stepside (small window) 4x4 that I am building. It is getting close but needs more time put into it (and $$). It is on a 77 Chevy shortbed frame (powdercoated gunmetal grey), has a built 350 w/ turbo 350 auto, NP205 transfer case, 10 bolt rear w/ 4.10's and a locker, Dana 44 front w/ 4.11's. Power steering, power brakes (front disc), tilt wheel, AC, power windows. The body is red (recently painted in pieces, and being put back together.. slowly...) Oak bedwood w/ polished stainless strips, every bolt in the truck replaced w/ stainless, some chrome parts, 6" lift (no blocks) and 35" BFG all terrains. Should be nice when it's done.
