Hell I work for General Motors but I am not going to miss out scooping up some GM stocks under $5!!
No disrespect intended; but I feel this deserves a "Heeeeeeeeere's your sign!"
"The Titanic is sinking?!! I'd better take a life boat out there, get on board, and start bailing water to help!"
As you can tell, I'm not a stock trader; and being so, am unlikely to jump off of any window ledges :?:
I wish you the best and hope that any venture that you seek, is a beneficial one. I hope that we all benefit from what is transpiring. The sad thing is though, several will be added to the casualties.
Seriously, I wish you the best and hope that you hit it BIG!!!!!!

50/50 chance if they will make it on there own, or if the government will bail them out. but both ways, you win!
HAHA in the bailout, the only people that win are the executives getting the golden parachutes and the sales folks getting their massages and nails done. This is the 21st century-right?
What brockerage service are you guys using for you day trading? Scotttrade, Etrade, someone else?
Scottrade has a low buy in ($500) and a $7 per trade fee-seems to be the lowest I've found. Buy how is their service? How long does it take to buy the stock once you put an order in?
E-Trade, but to get $ in fast you HAVE to wire it in. A bank trade takes about 3 business days and that is AFTER the account is verified with two small deposits.
When you consider that GM shares havent been this low since 1929...it might not be a bad time to buy. The saying is "Buy Low, sell high". Ultimately even if GM was to go bankrupt i dont think GM is going anywhere...massive restructuring and new labor and supplier contracts would be required, but if they could pull that off, GM could rise again.
There's no way anyone is going to let GM fail, especially the feds. I think buying their stock would be a good idea but what do I know, I'm the guy with a dead 401K.

They may be eviscerated and puled apart by the Japs and Chinese. This is no time for quality issues, and compare a BRAND NEW Malibu to a Lexus IS anything. (both are 6 cylinder mid sized 4 door sedans, for comparison.) As far as finish and overall vehicle quality the Lex has it hands down. The Chevy may beat it in economy and price of repairs, but that's all. If the domestics would actually give a shit about the end result and reputation of the cars they produce, they would do a lot better.
And I'm a Chevy die hard (for older iron up to '98) who hates Lexuses and Jap cars in general. But when you face the quality issues of an automobile inside and out, it's hard not to face the facts. Better is better. Inside and out. That's what's pinching the domestics now. That and the asinine SUV and truck glut.
Dodge has it's own stock in plastics; it must have the way they use it in their new interiors. The Dodge power trains are being enslaved by computers, to the point of ridiculousness and emasculation.
If the big 3 woke up and realized what their eating now is what they put in the toilet last night they'd still be too late to fix the mess they're in.
