Last Saturday started as any normal Saturday does for me.....work early in the morning. So I am headed to the mall that I work at (Freehold Mall for those people familiar with Jersey) and as I am entering the parking lot in the mall, I see a cop sitting in one of the parking spots. I think to myself, "I wonder what he is doing just hanging out in the parking lot so early". Thinking nothing of it, I drive right passed him and head for a spot. As I am right about to pull into a spot, I see some movement out of the corner of my eye, look in the rear view mirror, and low and behold, I am getting pulled over.
I find a place to safely pull over and then I turn off my car, turn off the radio, and roll down the windows.
"Good morning sir"
"Good morning. I'm officer "so and so" with the Freehold Township Police Department. Can I see your license and registration please?"
So all is well and he seems like a pretty nice cop. Since I was 100% sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong, I ask:
"Can I ask why I am being pulled over?"
Then he comes back with a snotty ass attitude saying "You know why you are being pulled over"
Knowing that this was going to get really ugly, really fast, I decide to keep it cool and just say "Sorry sir, I really don't."
"You're driving a car with illegally tinted windows and no front plate"
Lovely. I hand him my license, registration, and insurance card as well as a couple of PBA cards and I kindly ask him to extend some courtesy.
"Who gave you these cards?"
"Well, my friends father is a detective and he gave them to me"
Now THIS is where he REALLY starts to be a dick.
"Do you think you're above the law because you have these cards?"
"No sir, I--"
He cuts me off, and is raising his voice, borderline yelling, saying "Well that is basically what you are saying by giving me these cards, aren't you? You think that because you have these cards you don't have to follow the laws that everyone else has to. Why don't you have a front plate on this car?"
"The last owner never gave me the bracket for the front plate"
"And why do you have illegally tinted windows?"
"I got them to keep the heat out of the car. They are the lightest possible tints that I could have gotten (35% all around with nothing on the windshield) and I even got the more expensive ones that reflect sunlight/heat"
Still screaming at me, as if I wasn't just a foot away from him, he says "I don't care how light they are, all tints are illegal. I can't have them on the front of my police cruiser so why do you feel that you are allowed to? You have a car with black windows and a black interior, you could be holding a black gun under your sweater just waiting to shoot me right when I come up to your window"
Now at this point, I really wanted to be like "Dude, can you bring it down a few decibels? I'm pretty sure even Helen Keller can hear you right now" but instead I just shut up and sat there while he kept going.
"You asked me to extend some courtesy and I'm trying pretty hard here, but you are giving me all of the wrong answers to my questions. I'll be right back".
He gives me back my PBA cards but walks to his car with my license and info.
He comes back to me and says "Now I am going to extend some courtesy and not give you any tickets right now, but I am giving you 10 days to show up at my headquarters with no tints and a front plate on this car or else I am going to mail you a citation for each. My badge number is 233 and I am there Monday through Friday for the day shift".
As he gives me back my license and info, just to entertain him and make him think I'm really going to show up at his headquarters, I ask him, "what's the address for the headquarters?"
Still with his attitude, he says to me "Google it" as he walks away.

Now, my question is, can he really mail me tickets 10 days after the fact? I took it as some sort of scare tactic, but I am just curious. Either way, I'd just pay the tickets because it would be more expensive to get the tints redone if I took them off anyway. If anyone is sure about whether he can mail me tickets or not, I'd love to know. I'm still pretty annoyed that this clown made me almost 40 minutes late for my shift
