LOL tornados in FL are nothing compared to the Midwest. I think max wind speed for FL tornados is somewhere around 100mph, not sure. But unless you live in a trailer you rarely need to worry much. About 10 years ago one touched down on a major street two blocks from my house. I sat on the front porch and watched it. Not much damage, just a string of telephone poles got tilted.
I dunno about that, Chuck. We don't get monster F5's, but I've seen plenty of powerful ones.
A couple years back, we were having dinner at a friend's house when a tornado touched down. It thoroughly destroyed a rather large neighborhood here in Jax. The neighborhood was arranged as one large main street, with little "loops" off each side. The middle of each loop was a park, all with very old trees (most of the homes through here were 50-100 years old). The tornado snapped off most of the trees at the base. It tore off roofs, it tore down walls and collapsed buildings, shoved cars up into yards and homes, and basically wreaked havoc that took about a month to clean up.
Besides, even if they were only 100 MPH, a section of 2x4 doing 100 MPH can easily ruin your day.
