So move. Get out of the God damn hurricane catcher's mitt, for Christ's sake.
Relax, feel the same way you do about living here. Works brings me here, not one of my first picks for places to live. But there's no ice storms, earthquakes, wildfires, few tornadoes and the food is great. Other than this time of year the weather is great.
Just venting because its been two weeks of drama with Gustav and now it might start over. The real frustration comes from the people who aren't here and don't understand what is going on, and the people who are here and just won't take steps to protect themselves.

We have proof! See GW hates LA! He has personally put a curse on the place and while this is his last hurricane season.... I am sure he is in command of the CIA's weather making machine steering these storms toward Ray Nagin.

Well if the pay is worth the while... But I'd take an ice storm or blizzard over a hurricane any day.
I wouldn't. I've done both and I'll take the hurricane. I can run a small window a/c off the generator to sleep and be reasonably comfortable in the heat. If the generator fails, oh well. But freezing your butt off with no power sucks. And the trees fall over either way.
The reality is for a Cat 3 or under if you take reasonable precautions and don't live in a trailer 6 inches above sea level 5 miles inland, you'll be just fine. But that's not who the media wants to interview- they want the person who couldn't imagine leaving town and instead stayed home, but did not board up the windows, did not buy water and food, did put some cash away, get gas, etc. Then they piss and moan until the government comes and hands them money.
If anyone wants to pray for hurricane victims, do it now before one hits. Pray that people get a clue, pray that they make a decision and act on it vs. hoping for the best. Pray that they learn to quit relying on others to bail them out when they should have taken care of business in the first place.
My neighbor got called up to the reserves just before Gustav hit. He hadn't gotten to do anything to his house before he left. His wife packed up and headed north to friends. So another neighbor and I boarded up his house for him and I made up a generator cable to power his house. So while he was lighting up looters with FLIR cameras and searchlights, we were taking care of his business here. No big deal.
