One car I've always wanted a 59 dodge. A very unique looking car to say the least. I thought I had found the one I wanted. Came to an agreement on price on thursday morning and left friday morning with truck/trailer to go pick it up. I never pick up a car, always transported in. Something told me to do this one on my own. Round trip, it was over 1000 miles. I came home last night with no car. The car looked great inside and out. However, underneath had cancer bad. The car had recently been painted. After crawling underneath the car, I realized someone did a botch floor job on the car. The never cut out the existing rust, just laid metal on top of the rotted floor. I can just imagine what the body looked like prior. There were a few other things I saw that gave me bad warning signs. I don't feel like the guy tried to rip me off. He sent every picture I asked, but some stuff, you have to see with your own eyes. We came to an agreement on a settlement amount, as he had drove 400 miles round trip to help cut down on my transportation. It was hard to walk away, as I really wanted the car. Nothing like waking up at 5am and getting home at 12am.
BTW, diesel trucks don't get great gas mileage when driving 85mph home with a trailer behind them....through the mountains of TN/NC.

My Dad had a 59 Lancer Royal, Jet black w/ all that chrome, red interior w/ swivel buckets.
Had a 392 Hemi w/ 2 fours in it, don't know if it came that way, but it was fast.

I'd rather have driven the 1000 miles and came home with no car than to have driven 0 miles and be strapped with a piece of junk. Never buy a car sight unseen, especially a vintage car. You'll find another. As a consolation, sounds like you got to see some beautiful country on your trip.
I bought my used 2000 Viper from Woodhouse unseen, but never a used 59 anything. Sorry to hear about the waste of time, but I think you did the right thing by walking brother. Gary
My mechanic once loaned me a 58 or 59 Dodge when he was working on my 64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertable. It is hard to imagine he would do something that stupid since I was 18 at the time. Tan and beige two tone four door with the push button automatic. If you would rev the engine a little it would drop into gear on its own without using the push buttons. It was an ugly ass boat and real piece of shit and I could not wait to get my car back. He tried to buy my Sport Fury from me to give to his son.
The 61 Plymouth has my vote for the ugliest body style ever.
I just flew to Detroit last week to pick up a 96 GTS I bought on e-Bay. My wife thought it was pretty stupid to plan on driving almost 1,100 miles back to Florida in a 12 year old car I knew very little about, but it didn't miss a beat. I had always wanted to take a long road trip in a Viper. Made over 20 MPG, but cruise control would have been nice.

Oh I love my truck, I rented one to do this trip. Mine is in the shop getting a bigger intercooler.
I've bought a lot of cars off ebay site unseen, roughly 10-12. I've only got burnt on one and that ended up being a bad motor. When I buy old cars, I always buy under the premise if I had to sell, what could I get out of it. In this case, I knew I was screwed. I'm VERY happy I went, no doubt about that. Nothing like driving there on a high of getting a car and coming home pissed.
My financee thought shopping for wedding supplies today would help, not so much. haha
I flew out to OK from VA to buy my mercedes and drove it back. 1250 miles straight. Got up at 430 AM to get to the airport and didn't get home till 730AM the next morning. Not something I will be doing again
