I've had mine for about 6 months and haven't had any trouble with it at all. I paid the $39.95 to sign up and the first year of phone service is free.
I had a little trouble getting it activated on the first day, but after reinstalling the software a few times, got it working. You get a real phone number (you pick the area code), sound quality is as good as talking on a regular phone, voice mail is great because it emails the voice messages to you as a wav file when you miss calls.
Only downside is that your computer has to always be on in order to use it, so I would only get it as a second line.
