If you are moving to the Houston area you have lots of upscale housing options.
If you are looking statewide , check out Austin , S.A. , and everything betwixed the two .............
Houston and Big D are a blast , but I stay close to the hill country and then S. Texas during the rut...........

Houston - The Woodlands (suburb), then take a short drive to Galveston (beach)
Can't go wrong with Austin (Hill Country) or San Antonio
Dallas - areas North, ie: Plano, Addison

Austin was a very nice city with plenty of master-planned golf course communities.

That's why all of us Good guys are Armed here in Texas!
On a side note, I have only had to almost pull my Firearm one time since I got my CHL, and that was in Colorado last week.
To the OP if you are looking for place to stay in the Houston city Limits,I would avoid the Southwest part of town at all costs, the concentration of Criminals seems especially high in that part of town,I would stay in one of the Burbs of Houston (Sugarland, the Woodlands) depending on where your family lives in Houston of Course, enjoy your stay in Texas.

Aw comeon. Texans are just folks that are all armed and like to shoot things.

Hotels to stay at are going to be St Regis, Hotel Zsa Zsa, Hotel Derek, all those hotels have a good bar scene. Other places to hang out would be UpTown around the Galleria. Depending on where you will be working, places to live with family would be Woodlands, Sugar Land, Kingwood, Memorial area, Cypress, these are some good places to start looking at.

Are you looking to move here for work on a permanent basis? If so, do you know your office location.....that will help with a more focused response.
Shoot me a PM if you need anything or have any questions.........
