Ward, they are not fucking around here anymore. Law enforcement is dead serious about street racing. I know someone who got their car crushed, it was rice but still crushed.

Are they as serious about drunk drivers? They only accounted for 1509 California deaths in 2006.
Nah, it's easier to go after the street racers. Everybody drinks, not everybody street races.
So the cops have been trained on how to spot cars that have been modified for street racing? How do they look any different than a car that's only taken to the strip when it's raced, but otherwise is safely driven on the street?
I agree with Chuck, First time: fine and jail time. Second, Crushed car, big fine, lots of jail time. Third time you get crushed inside your car.... end of story!

Agreed as well. NHRA spends alot of money each year to local tracks and promotions through Law Enforecment to get kids off the streets and onto the dragstrip.
If those kids are not in some industrial area racing their cars for fun with very minimal risk to others, then they may and most likely will be doing something considerably more dangerous or illegal.
Anyone that thinks street racers are some sort of public enemy number one needs to get a reality check. They are just kids/adults trying to have some fun with their cars as safely as possible. It is the cops that chase them around all over the place that make street racing far more dangerous than it should be.
If NHRA really wants to make some sort of safe place to race then they need to do it several times a week, not several times a year.
I have seen the industrial park racing, many, NOT all have been drinking. Industrial park racing is not a serious problem as street racing. Sometimes people will line the edges of the drag strip street, which is a recipe for disaster. The bad street racing is where the racers are swerving in between cars endangering the public and secondly themselves. That is truly what gives the "street" racer a bad name, not a heavily traveled roads with families on them.

I agree. I am lucky that the town I go to school in has track days every friday and they are very laid back and fun. I got 22 runs in one night...totally worth the 15 bucks. However, there are lots of towns that have events a couple times per year and the amount of runs you can get may be 4 if you are lucky. What I think would be really cool is if townships would actually set up "street races" in a fun, hollywood-esque setting (ie. between warehouses, a quiet country road, a long the water front). The idea would be to give that atmosphere that makes a street race so enticing, but do it in a safe way.

Thank a lawyer for that to never ever happen, unless it was seriously bankrolled by someone. Even legit dragstrips have a hard time with lawsuits, and they have rescue, guard rails, waivers, safety equipment, ect, ect.

I am aware...more of a dream in an ideal world than a legitimate expectation

The stats agree with you and so do I.
I also cannot think of any circumstances where I would condone the government taking personal property for destruction or for their own personal use. If they took the cars to pay for damages to an innocent victim then I could agree with it, but to take property just to "teach a lesson" nope. I don't agree.
