The 2008 Kawasaki 250's only weigh 333lbs and I'm a pretty small guy. They top out around 110 now, but the big draw to them is up to 70mpg (while most 500cc+ are < 50mpg). I do like the sportbike look, though, but I think I'm kinda leaning towards something low cc like the 250 because it's so cheap and also to keep me away from trying to make it faster which is a big crutch of mine (which no amount of money will make it perform anywhere near a 600). I figure if I really get into bikes then I'll eventually get something bigger, but for a gas mileage easy to control bike that a 250 might be a pretty good choice. A used 06 or 07 can be found for $2000 and a new 08 is $3500.
I'm gonna do the MSF course to see how I like it then go from there. Hopefully I won't be bit by the speed bug as I'd like to keep most my spending to cars only.
I have owned everything from Gixxers, CBR's to dual sports. One of my favorite bikes was my Suzuki DR-Z400S. I can take you anywhere you want to go from backroads too highways too deep in the woods. All on one tank of gas. I had to add more aggressive off road rubber since I would run into a lot of sugar sand or else this bike can handle anything.

Is that what they're calling cocaine in Florida these days?
Well, I would go bigger however my main reason for buying is gas mileage, which the 250 excels at extremely compared to a 500cc+ engine. And anything bigger would cost me nearly twice as much, and I'm not even sure yet I'll be into sport riding.
I figure starting out with a 250 would be good as I can always sell if I decide riding is my "thing" and move up to something bigger. Plus, with the savings in mileage and the high resale rates of streetbikes I probably would come out on top anyway.
Unfortunately, there are no dealers within 500 miles from me (or further) that have any in stock and instead they are only taking non-refundable deposits.
If anyone can find me a new Black 2008 Ninja 250 for $3,800 out the door (with shipping if it's not local) I'll throw in a $400 finders reward.
My favorite bke was a 99 Blackbird. Ran a 10.2 stock and had a one piece seat which made riding with a passenger a great ride compared to other sportbikes. I added a Corbin seat & a set of Heli Bars which brought the stock bars up to the height of VFR & made a big difference. Add a set of Carbon pipes to save a bunch of weight. The stock pipes on the 1100 are heavy. I still think the paint job on the 01 929 Erion addition was my favorite stock paintjob.

Racing a Honda is like racing in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded.

I rode mine for a few years until everyone realized the 600's were much easier to stunt. And I agree the paint scheme was the shit, the earlier 900rr's were nice too.
