Gas prices: I don't get it, are people really this stupid?
Alright, not another gas price crybaby post, I swear.
I just don't understand this situation:
Last week a gas station here had a "sale" on gas. It was supposed to be $4.05 a gallon, they were selling it for $3.90. All the other stations were still at $4.05 a gallon.
You'd think Pamela Anderson was here giving away free blowjobs they way people were freaking out about it. There was a line that took 30-45 minutes to get through to get gas. Can people not do basic math to see how dumb this is? Lets say the average car gets 15 gallons at a normal fill up. The gas was $0.15 cheaper per gallon. Thats a total savings of $3.00 on a $60.00 tank of gas. Whoop-de-fucking-do. Who the fuck sits in line like white trash at Wal Mart on black friday for three fucking dollars? I won't even point out the obvious fact that all these people sat in line WITH THEIR ENGINES RUNNING for 40 minutes to save this $3.00, most likely negating any savings they may have gotten.
Are people really this stupid? I mean, I held the intelligence of the general population in low regard as it was, but this has lowered even my almost non-existent faith in the general publics ability to walk and chew gum at the same time.

These are definately tough times, which are going to get tougher. I bet that most of the people in line for the gas "savings" didn't have more than 2-3 teeth in their mouth.

I hear ya...A local tv reporter surveyed some people at a gas station recently, asking how far they would drive to save X cents per gallon. Most of them had no clue and would have spent more than they saved..

We have 2 Shell stations in my neighborhood that are 44. cents higher than anyone else. It might be OK to at least look.
I look in the sense that I see that they are within normal price ranges (about 4.10 here). But I shop by brand. I get about 1-2 MPG better with Shell, Sunoco, and BP than anyone else. So if they are a few cents more, I don't really care. Still, I see your point.
Yes , people are stupid , they will spend 20.00 at Starbucks for a cup-o-crud , then bitch about spending 20.00 more on fuel. I say get an econo-box , quit driving around all day doing errands , by a cyle/scooter/bike or pay the piper...........
I gas costs too much , then get your ass off the road.
I WISH our prices were that "nation average". Gas is about 4.20 around here, and some proof it's not getting any better is Chrysler's "2.99" for 3 years deal. They wouldn't have made that contract if insiders didn't know for a FACT that prices are going to STAY this way for good. At this rate it will be 5+ a gal about this time next year. Personally I think alot as to do with price gouging, the fact that in less then a few years prices nearly doubled with no sign of stopping. In early 2005 I paid around 1.55 for reg and 1.75 for high grade.

Agree 100%
The only problem I have is that we all are sucking from the tit of every oil company and there is not a damn thing we can do about it.

WRONG...... Chryslers $2.99 for 3 years deal is them hedging on gas going back down..... If gas does does keep going up, it could very well put them out of business ....
I feel the high gas prices big time, but I look at it from a different angle. Gas has been too damn cheap for too damn long.
I have been blabbing to people about people living above their means for years. No one listened.
THe fact that someone earning around minimum wage was able to buy a used escalade/denali/expedition etc. and could also afford to drive it daily proved to me 2 major issues.
1. LEnders are becoming to eager and willing to lend
2. Gas is too damn cheap if the bottom money earners are able to buy something that only the rich could afford a few years prior
This was 5 years ago or more when I was saying this. Move forward to now. Housing bubble popped, and gas prices are through the roof. If gas was always at least $2.00/ gallon, that would have, in theory, lowered demand. Someone making minimum wage would not have been able to afford to operate a huge SUV forcing them to buy 1980 toyota corollas and camry's....like they used to.
THink about the last few years. At least in Houston, any previous model luxury car (especially SUVs) almost always belongs to a low income person. It might not seem like much, but in the same way subway saved millions by moving their napkins behind the counters, we could have save phenomenal amounts of fuel.

I don't even look at the price. I can't change it. I just press the button and pump. Saves me considerable stress.
Same here. I never even look at the signs. I just fill it up and keep on going. You gotta have it. Its not going to do you any good to complain. It would suck if you lived pay check to pay check every week and your money keeps getting thinner and thinner for doing the same thing.

Same here. I run only Mobil 93 octane in the Viper and Z28, it costs what it costs. I don't even look anymore, just pump and go.
As far as my business, we've decided to tack an extra "fuel charge" to our invoices on service calls. I figure this is better than just raising prices because the consumer can relate to the inflated cost of gas easier than relating to me having expensive toys.
About the only thing pissing me off about the fuel prices (that can be easily remedied anyway) is the goddamn pumps being set to shutdown at a predetermined dollar amount. My truck holds 22 gallons or so, and all the damn pumps here shut off at $75.00. I can never fill all the way up. I say, if you're gonna butt fuck us for fuel at least let me fill the damn tank all the way up. I used to believe them when they said that was to keep the total dollar amount of stolen gasoline down, but now I know better: Its so you have to get gas more frequently, therefor increasing the likelyhood of you coming inside to buy smokes, liquor, candy, pop, etc. Brilliant bastards.....
Yes. Keep in mind, that the vast majority of people in this country/ world are dumber than you are. Scary, I know. These people vote, carry guns, have children, etc.
I had a clever idea a few days ago for an independant station to have a $1 "sale" on gas: Just put $1 on the signage and the pumps for the price, but that's only per quart. The masses of retards would form endless lines around the block to buy some "$1 gas!"
My buddy used a similar tactic years ago selling used cars in shitsville Atlanta to people that didn't deserve a car or to breed at all. If the monty payment was $200, they would baulk at that much money so he'd pull the papers back across the desk, do some scribbling, punching some keys on the calculator, etc. and then push it back across and ask "Ok, how about $50 a week? Can you handle that?"
They loved it. He'd get the down payment and then a couple of weeks later, after non-payment, he'd repo the car and do it all over again.
