Anyone who thinks that American oil companies are purposely holding back oil and are not trying to squeeze every last drop of oil out of the ground are smoking some good shit.

I've been in the Oil buisness here in WV for 20+ years. The problem lies more with delivery than actual underground reservs. Our pipeline systems were laid back in the Oil boom of the 1980's and have since become over crowded with production. If you were to look at a map of Central West Virginia it would look a bit like swiss cheese. There's over 25,000 wells in our county alone. Many of these are old and no longer produce, but getting the resource delivered to the end user is still far from optimized.
We need more pipelines, but no one seems to want to pick up the tab on such a project. Which could easily reach 9 figures.

What kind of wells do they drill over there? For some reason I like the horizontal wells up here (Williston) better than the "S" curve wells in Piceance.
Plastics can be made out of various crops as well. Just not in the vast quantities that a modern society requires yet. That is changing though as the product packaging companies are looking for alternatives.
Screw the Middle Eastern governments. It's only a matter of time before either the Chinese, Indians, Ruskies or US just take over what is needed to keep the industrialized world cranking. We will only be held hostage so long.
Green river shale oil is the biggest formation of shale oil on the planet located in parts of Colorado etc. The amount of shale oil there dwarfs what is in Saudi Arabia. Its on goverment land but I think its Shell that has a very cheap way to access it. So much oil that it would cost Americans 35c per gallon for centurys since the process is so simple and cheap. I read about a while back but cant find the exact link to it. Heres one I found anyhow.
You can read about it all you want, but the truth is that oil shale production is a bitch. It is hard to mine, and hard to refine. I worked extensivley with the Eeste Polevkivi mine in Estonia, dealing with equipment for mining the shit. If it were as easy as that article reads, and you say... Everyone would be doing it. The cost is stupid high, and it causes all sorts of waste products.
It is possible that this will become more prevalent, but remember that the oil that comes from shale is not exactly like the usual dino oil we pump.
As far as solar goes, well... In the years to come the efficiency will go up and the cost will go down. That may solve a slight chunk of the problem for electricity, but I would bet my money on Nuclear.

I will agree with you... just so I can ask you to post the full size version of your avatar.

The wells we drill are just your standard old Vertical shaft wells. In our area the producing regions are the Big Injun (oil 2200ft) and the Benson Sand (gas 5200ft)

Anyone that has played strategy games knows why we are stockpiling and not tapping into our resources, and instead using up everyone elses. Not only are you sucking other countries dry of resources, but you're keeping your enemies at bay and putting them in a really bad position later down the road. Drain the world of oil while keepings ours untouched is a damn good way to preemptively win a war against China.

That's true to an extent. We are making all the other countries rich while we are killing off our own economy and racking up our national deficit all the while.
This is what happens when a greasy Texan oil man goes and "demands" something from another greasy Arab oilman with MORE oil, he basically told him "fuck your couch" and go back home and expect 5$ per galon by thanksgiving this year.
These are all the things that come with having a leader that is respected(by other leaders) as much as a midget hooker on crack.
FOR THE RECORD:
[i]"When George W. Bush first ran for president in 2000, he criticized the Clinton administration for high fuel prices and said the president must "jawbone" oil producing nations and persuade them to increase production...At that time, oil was nearing $28 a barrel
Good "jawboning" DumbW'a, bravo I say, diesel is well over 4$ and truckers are about to make the country stop MOVING, literally.
I's funny how China has uped their demand sooo much in such a short amount of time

Isn't that what Tom Cruise did on that Oprah episode?

But fortunately for us the money just goes right into the dictators/rulers pockets instead of the countries infrastructures. In time, when they've dried up all their resources they'll have little to do but buy back to oil. In the meantime, our economy can suffer but we are still very far ahead of the curve in economy when you consider all the countries of the world that we can afford to weaken it a bit.
Think of it as a long term investment, we put our money into non-liquid assets in other countries then squeeze them dry of resources until they have no choice but to buy back our stockpile later at a premium. America already controls the majority of the food of the world (grain), economy is still decent compared to a worldwide average, so imagine how strong of a position we will be in 100 years later when we also control the energy of the world. Sure, there will be advances in energy tech within 100 years but without proper infrastructure the other countries will not be able to use it widely or efficiently enough.

Speculations and assumptions is what got us here and is partially at fault for driving up the prices.
Let's think 5-10 yrs, I could give a fuck about the 100yr mark really.
5-10yr mark is not looking pretty with this idiot making such a mess of the current situtation.
Look at the big 3 car lots. Around here they are filled with only big SUV's and pickups.
The big 3 have partly caused this over consumption deal and the oil companies are all for it. The publics he-man, I must have "BIG" mentality
