Yes, we know the car can bite back when the driver becomes complacent or over confident. There are several points that could have changed the end results, but the Monday morning quarterbacking right now will help no one. Two folks are dead, and there are kids without parents.

I don't post at the other site, but it should be said that Evil is on his own with this one. EVERYONE on this board feels extremely bad for the family and friends left behind. What a terrible incident.
Evils comments should be deleted as they make us all look bad. A ban might not be a bad idea as well .
Everybody makes a bad decision now and then, they obviously made a couple that night. Haven't we all done something stupid but maybe we got away with it? You know, the time you drove home shitfaced drunk, or the time you raced that guy on the street but it was a little crowded, but you did anyway? You got away with it...that time.
Nevertheless they left children, and parents and brothers and sisters that are now deeply hurt and forever changed and it just took an instant to lose control of that car. That could have been anybody in a weak moment, I wouldn't cast stones. Very sad.
I'm going to say in Evil's defense that as a Libertarian (and that is what he is) the concept of responsibility for one's action's is where he's coming from. I've seen folks that are victims of their own poor judgment being treated a lot worse on this board than what Evil has said about this couple. I see terms like "Darwin Award" being bandied about quite often. I think that as an upper middle class couple with children and similar interests to ours we are naturally going to be as a group more empathetic to them than say some black people in New Orleans, some kids drag racing, etc.
I don't think Evil was particularly tactful and came claws out when backed into a corner but there is nothing he said that hasn't been said on this board by someone else in some way at one time or another in some other circumstance. It's part of the Alley culture right or wrong.
I'm not sure if the comment about banning him was serious or not but geez, give it a rest unless you want this the be Martha Stewart's New Viper Alley.
That being said perhaps we can all be a little more taciturn when we comment about other people's tragedies for which we don't understand the circumstances, will never know the reasons, and hopefully will never feel the pain that these families will never escape. Maybe simply pointing out that seatbelts are always a good idea without attaching a value judgement.

I meant he might deserve a time out. It's one thing to make a completely unthought out comment, rude and completely oblivious to those whom it might hurt. And it's another to back it up when someone on here knows those who were killed. A simple "sorry", (and then deleteing the post) would have shown class, and taste.
Yes he does. And so does Evil. Obviously some people don't have any class. If a couple couldn't take the stress of life and committed suicide it would still be a tragedy for the kids.
